Evelyn did not explain to Leonard that she and Lucas were not going home together.
At that moment, Lucas must have gone to look for Tiffany. He would not use the time he spent with Tiffany to take Evelyn home.
…
There were no movements on Tiffany's end in the next two days. Lucas did not contact Evelyn either.
Evelyn was not sure if it was over. She had been busy, but she kept feeling worried.
Finally, Lucas called her again on Friday. His tone was indifferent as he said, "Sophia is having an allergic reaction. She doesn't allow the household staff to touch her. She said it was not painful when you helped her apply medication in the past. Can you go over and check on her?"
Evelyn pursed her lips. "Alright."
Sophia had nothing to do with her. She could have said no. However, since Lucas had asked, this could be considered a request and a term for an exchange. He would have no reason to force Evelyn to sell Deborah's manor anymore.
"About the manor—"
"Lucas, what do you think about this dress?" Tiffany could be heard asking softly on the other end of the call.
It was just 9:00 am. It was the busiest time of the day, yet he was shopping with Tiffany.
Lucas hung up the call.
Evelyn had long gotten used to being ignored by him.
She took the day off and went to Grant Manor.
Sophia had a delicate body and was allergic to a number of things. If she was slightly uncareful, she would be covered in rashes that were itchy and painful. She was spoiled, so she would throw a tantrum regardless if it was the doctor or the household staff who applied the medication for her.
Evelyn was the only one who was meticulous. She had helped Sophia deal with her rashes a few times in the past three years, and Sophia was quite pleased with it.
Evelyn felt a little complicated when she returned to Grant Manor.
She had confidently told Lucas the last time that she would never be coming back again. However, at that moment, she had no choice but to come again. He probably thought that she was a joke.
Once the household staff saw Evelyn, she brought her a pair of house slippers.
Maria came over and held Evelyn's hand. "She's throwing a tantrum upstairs. You're the only one who can handle that spoiled brat."
Evelyn smiled, saying nothing. She went straight upstairs to check on Sophia.
Seeing the two of them bumping into each other made Maria grin from ear to ear. "You're back just in time. Tessie was just asking about the two of you earlier. Have a chat with her later."
Tessie Walker was Maria's sister.
Lucas glanced at his watch and declined, saying, "I have an online meeting later, Grandma."
Evelyn was not surprised. He would never pretend to be lovey-dovey with her in front of others. Everybody could feel that Lucas was cold to her.
"It's fine, Grandma. Work comes first," Evelyn said calmly.
Maria thought this was Lucas' fault. She glared at him and asked, "What do you have that's so urgent? Have you spoken to Evie even since you came through the door? Don't you see she's busy as a bee because of Sophia? Is she invisible to you?"
Lucas was as calm as ever. He simply smiled and said, "You're right, Grandma. I deserved to be lectured."
That was what he said, but he had no intention of admitting that he was wrong at all.
Having no choice, Maria went over and smacked his chest hard. "Get over here and stand next to Evie. I have something important to do."
Lucas followed Maria's lead, letting her pull him away until he stood next to Evelyn.
