Madeline had gone home? Felix fell silent as he rested his chin on his interlaced fingers. 

Everyone has a golden period in their past, especially during their school days. “I’ll pay 50 grand. Get her back here,” Felix said. 

The manager shook his head. “Sir, it’s not about the money. It’s in her contract.” 

Felix raised his offer. “200 grand.” 

The manager froze as he gawked at Felix. Had he heard that right? 200 grand? 

“I’ll throw in another 50 grand for you if you bring her back.” Money was no object to Felix. He had more than he could spend anyway. 

“Give me half an hour, sir. She’ll be here, I guarantee it.” Money really could make people do anything. 

“Damn, first love’s got some pull. 250 grand, just like that.” Jack gave him a thumbs up. He did not think it was a big deal. Before his family cut him off, he would have done the same. It was all about having the means. 

20 minutes later, Madeline was back. She was dressed casually instead of her work outfit. 

“You can go,” Felix told the manager. After the manager left, Jack tactfully excused himself to the bathroom, leaving Felix and Madeline alone. 

“It’s been a while,” Felix said. 

Madeline sat down next to Felix while leaving a gap between them. Her eyes seemed to hold a storm of emotions. 

“250 grand just to see me. Is it really worth it?” She did not seem surprised that Felix had that sort of money. 

“Yes.” Felix nodded. 

After a moment of intense eye contact, Madeline pulled out a cigarette, lit it up, and took a deep drag. 

“I pegged you right back then. I can see it in your eyes that you haven’t changed much. But I’m not that same girl who used to snuggle up to you anymore,” Madeline remarked.‘ Felix hesitated, then asked, “What happened? This can’t be what you really want.‘
