At the cafe, Xena found Xander happily digging into his meal. “You’re really enjoying your breakfast, Dr. Fielding.” 

Xander smiled and said, “Indeed. Everything tastes better when your mind’s at ease.” 

Xena watched him eat in silence. Though burning with questions, she could not bring herself to speak. 

Finally, Xander wiped his mouth, his eyes showing a glint of admiration. “I have to say, Lady Summers, you’re really a lucky one. Not only are you climbing the ranks, but you’ve got some remarkable friends.” 

Friends? Xena was puzzled. “What do you mean?” 

Now, it was Xander’s turn to look confused. Could there be a misunderstanding? “Isn’t Felix your friend?” 

Felix? A sense of unease crept over Xena. “Are you saying Felix is the one who healed Grandpa?” 

Xander nodded. “That’s right! Remember what I mentioned before? Mr. Kinsley Senior was cured by a young doctor whose skills are even better than mine. You tried to look into it, but the Kinsley family kept quiet. 

“That person was Felix. Since no one else had private access to your grandfather, it’s pretty obvious when you think about it.” 

Xena gasped, covering her mouth as her eyes widened with disbelief. Felix, whom she had always thought of as a simple country doctor, was actually a master healer who outshone even Xander. And he had saved Curtis. She would not have believed them if anyone else had told her this. 

“I should get going. I’ll leave you guys to deal with the matter.” With his many years of experience, Xander could sense the complicated relationship between Xena and Felix. 

Her phone’s ringing jolted her back to reality. It was Jaden. “Can we have dinner tonight, Xena?” 

“I can’t make it. I’ll be flying to Yartford this afternoon for a report. Let’s do that another day.” 

Now that she knew Jaden was not Curtis‘ savior, how could she face him? He had gone to such lengths to bring in a master healer like Brandon only for fate to throw a curveball. 

“Sure, we’ll catch up when you’re back.” She still had not told Jaden about Curtis‘ order to date Felix. She would keep stalling as long as possible since it was only for a month anyway.
