Just as Ernest finished speaking, a loud, grumbling voice came from inside the room. 

“Ernest! Who are you calling an old man?” 

The voice sounded robust, hardly like that of a sick person. Ernest put on an embarrassed smile. The man was, after all, his old superior. His rebukes were warranted. 

As Felix passed Nala, he ignored her entirely. However, he had already picked up on something–the relationship between Lionel and Nala wasn’t an ordinary one. Given the way Ernest spoke to her, they might even be family.

Lionel was a man of absolute character who spared no energy on superfluous words.

While Felix went to wash his hands, Lionel gave Ernest a stern look. 

“Everyone faces death eventually. Stop running around trying to fix me up. I’m blessed enough to have lived to this age.” 

Ernest shot him a wry smile. “As long as there’s a glimmer of hope, do you think I would ever give up?” 

Beside him, Isaac’s gaze was equally resolute. Though he said nothing, his determination was unmistakable.
