Once inside the office, Xena appeared slightly apologetic. 

“Sorry for dragging you into this and getting you threatened. But don’t worry–Ethan is definitely in trouble. Regardless of his motives, he won’t be getting out for at least ten years.” 

Felix dropped into a chair with a casual smile. “Why the formality between us?” 

Xena rolled her eyes at him but couldn’t deny the lingering fear in her heart. If she hadn’t personally made that call to Felix, Ethan might have walked away scot–free, and a month later, when the criminal died, the blame would have fallen squarely on her shoulders. 

As someone newly appointed, the last thing she needed was a disaster of this magnitude. 

“Well, since I saved the day, how do you plan to thank me?” Felix asked. 

Xena thought for a moment before replying seriously, “I know you’ve been working hard to clear your name and even went to see my grandfather. But you have to understand, he was directly involved in that incident. With his age and experience, it’s not easy for him to change his mind.” 

Felix 

gave a bitter laugh. “To be honest, I’m running out of options. My only hope is for you to speak positively about me to him as often as you can. If he doesn’t approve, there’s no way you and I will ever be together.” 

For a rare moment, Xena blushed. “Shut up! Who said I want to be with you?” 

Over the years, she had been pursued by many suitors, but none had ever made her feel this flutter of joy deep in her heart. She knew, without a doubt, that she loved Felix. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be feeling this way. 

After chatting a bit more, Felix decided it was time to leave, just as Xena received a call from headquarters. 

As she was about to open the door, her voice suddenly rose. 

“What? My Lord, are you sure?” 

Anyone who could be addressed as “My Lord” by the Phoenix Warlord had to be one of the -highest–ranking officials at headquarters–people even the Great Wardlords reported to. 

“But… I understand. I’ll carry out the order.” 

When she hung up, her expression was stormy, her face almost black with frustration. 

“What happened?” 

“Headquarters ordered me to release Ethan. They claim it wasn’t intentional, that he used

Felix’s expression turned peculiar. If headquarters had stepped in, it was clear Ethan had strong connections. 

“It doesn’t seem like this is purely Medic’s Haven pulling strings, does it?” 

Xena nodded. “Exactly. According to what I just heard, someone else must have 

intervened. Otherwise, Medic’s Haven alone wouldn’t have had enough influence to secure his release given the severity of this case.” 

She paused and looked at Felix with concern. “Ethan clearly holds a grudge against you now. Should I arrange for someone to protect you?”
