“Mr. Summers Senior, if a man degrades himself to the point of sacrificing his own body for love, he doesn’t deserve to live! Our bodies are gifts from our parents, and unless forced, self–mutilation is disrespectful to those who gave us life and raised us,” Felix declared firmly. 

“If you believe I’m a coward, so be it. I won’t perform such a ridiculous act just to change your mind,” he added before turning and walking out. 

As the bitter realization sank in, he saw no point in staying. He had thought Curtis was finally ready to accept him, but instead, it was just an elaborate trap to humiliate him. 

After Felix had been gone for a while, Xena shifted her gaze from the axe to Curtis, her eyes filled with anger. “Grandpa, this was absolutely ridiculous!” 

Curtis simply pulled the axe from the table and headed back upstairs, saying, “I have my reasons. Stay out of it.” 

Later that evening, Felix sat at a local barbecue joint, drinking beer and eating. He was there purely out of hunger rather than mood. In truth, Curtis‘ stunt had not really affected him that deeply. 

“I hope you’re not angry with my grandfather,” Xena said, suddenly appearing and sitting across from him. 

Felix teased, “Isn’t this kind of food spot beneath someone of your status?” 

Xena brushed her bangs aside and grabbed a beer, raising it in a toast. “I’m human, too, aren’t I?” 

They clinked bottles, and Felix smiled. “Don’t worry. I can’t be mad at Mr. Summers Senior when he’s still traumatized by that incident.” 

Deep down, Felix knew he had no right to hold a grudge. After all, the kidnapping incident had been because of him in the first place. 

“Still, I need to apologize for my grandfather’s behavior,” Xena insisted, clearly feeling that Curtis had gone too far this time. 

“By the way, what came of the investigation into Mr. Glover’s case? There must be results by now, right?” Felix asked. 

“Yes. They concluded it was all false accusations. The perpetrators have been arrested, though the mastermind remains unknown. They covered their tracks well,” Xena explained.
