Felix shook his head firmly. “My home ceased to exist when my parents died.”

“You’d be dead if I hadn’t intervened just now! Isn’t that enough to make you understand? 

Felix had to admit Asher had a point, and he seemed surprisingly considerate. “Thanks for your kindness, but my only home now exists in my heart.” 

Asher was exasperated. “Listen. The only reason you have this chance to return to the Greene family is because Uncle Victor is dying! Otherwise, given Grandma’s attitude, you wouldn’t even be considered! 

“Are you really going to refuse to see your dying father one last time?”

“At least getting Lemuel’s medicine makes this trip somewhat worthwhile. Every extra day Uncle Victor can get is precious now.” 

As Asher walked away, he added something without looking back, “Aiden’s busy with something right now, but he might come looking for you when he’s done. Uncle Travis and Uncle Victor have been rivals since childhood, so… watch your back.”
