Nancy couldn't pin anything suspicious on Cyrus for a month. He only came close to another woman when he presented an award to Hayley three days ago. After all, Hayley was the new darling of the Gordon Group, heavily promoted and financed into stardom by them.

Just when Nancy began to doubt the authenticity of the photographs she had seen, Hayley suddenly messaged her, daring her to wager whether Cyrus would spend their wedding anniversary night with her instead.

Nancy brushed off Hayley's taunts and made a little wager with herself, wondering who Cyrus would pick on their big day. What if Hayley was wrong? After all, she and Cyrus were truly in love.

Yet, when midnight came and their anniversary passed, Cyrus had not returned and was reportedly seen dozing off by Hayley's side.

She had lost.

In hindsight, Cyrus' insistence half a year ago that she become a housewife, supposedly to protect her from male attention, was a mere facade meant to shield his affair with Hayley, who had joined the Gordon Group six months prior.

Feeling like a fool kept in the dark, Nancy remembered Cyrus' promise to wait for her, only to end up in someone else's bed. Love seemed a matter of conscience. From the day Cyrus and Hayley first became involved, he had severed his emotional ties with Nancy.

She couldn't bear it any longer. Taking a deep breath, Nancy looked at the divorce papers on the table, walked over, and signed her name on the last page. She placed the papers into a gift box, sat on the bed, and wept silently, her heart in agony.

Nancy reflected on Cyrus' past assurances of his unique love for her, contrasting sharply with her despair. Throughout the night, sleep eluded her until the early morning hours.

Suddenly, she felt a presence by her bed.

Opening her eyes, she found herself in Cyrus' embrace.

His deep voice came from above, "Nancy, I finally got that 'Only You' necklace yesterday, but then I got held up by a sudden call from the chamber of commerce, and I just sorted it out. Sorry, I missed our first anniversary, please don’t be mad."

"Don't open it now. Wait half a month," Nancy snapped, holding his wrist.

Though bemused, Cyrus smiled indulgently, "Alright, if that’s what you want. Nancy likes her men to listen, so I'll open it after half a month."

His dismissive compliance only fueled her anger. Trained to deceive!

Cyrus locked the gift box safely away and took Nancy's hand with a soothing but firm tone, "Let’s head to the amusement park. I owe you for last night; we need to make it up."

Nancy planned to refuse, but Cyrus' teasing words stopped her, “Or do you want to be carried there? You know I’m always happy to oblige.”
