"Ms. Gonzalez, it shows you're married. Does your husband know you're leaving?"

"Yeah, we're on the brink of divorce," Nancy whispered hurriedly, her voice barely above a murmur.

The clerk paused, "The process to terminate your status has started. You'll need to come in a week to submit your application. Will that work for you?"

Without hesitation, Nancy firmly replied, "Yes, I'll be there."

Not just in a week. Nancy would make time anytime if it meant getting away from Cyrus.

With a nod, the clerk ended the call.

The vast silence of the house enveloped her once more, broken only by the sound of water in the bathroom.

Nancy's expression was hard to read, a mix of emotions she couldn't quite name. Just a little longer, and she'd be free from Cyrus.

Her phone pinged, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was a message from Hayley.

A gut feeling told Nancy to check. And sure enough, there it was.

Hayley had posted a collage of photos showcasing the jewelry Cyrus had gifted her. Right at the center was a picture of her snuggled up against a man radiating joy. Even though the man's face was out of frame, the clothes he wore left no doubt. It was Cyrus.

Hayley's caption read, [When the wrong jewels find their rightful owner. Thanks for the gifts, love. It feels great to be treated like a princess.]

Nancy stared at the post until her eyes stung. So, Cyrus had taken Hayley to the auction house, where he'd never thought to take Nancy since their wedding.
