When Oneida’s eyes fluttered open, her gaze immediately settled on the expanse of a man’s chest… 

It was then Oneida realized an astonishing fact–She was wrapped up in Knight’s disheveled embrace… 

And Oneida was holding on remarkably tight. 

Oneida’s complexion turned rigid, and in an instant, Oneida withdrew her arms before raising her wrist instinctively- With a “slap,” Oneida landed a sharp smack across the face of the man before her. 

Jackson was caught off guard. He also let go, waves of emotions rippling through his deep eyes. “But we agreed–you wouldn’t…” Oneida’s gaze bore into him, a tinge of anger flashing through her heart. 

At the same time, a faint blush stained the tips of her ears, and a light flush of embarrassment colored her cheeks. “It was you who initiated it,” Jackson responded with a complex expression, his eyes a profound abyss. 

“Me?” Oneida’s eyes widened slightly in disbelief. “How could I possibly…” Oneida cut herself off as flashbacks began to fill her mind. Just now, Oneida must have fallen asleep. And Oneida seemed to have dreamt. Oneida dreamt of shivering coldly, but fortunately, a grand furnace appeared beside her. Oneida faintly remembered embracing that warm refuge… Could it be that… 

Oneida clenched her fingers, suddenly feeling guilty.

Leaving these words behind, he turned and walked away without looking back. 

He returned to the fire, extinguishing it. 

Oneida finished dressing and approached, her lips tightly pursed. Her voice softened as Oneida spoke, “About earlier… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have hit you. My apologies…” 

This was the first time Oneida had ever apologized so meekly to someone. 

For some reason, as Oneida locked eyes with Knight’s profound gaze, Oneida felt especially remorseful. 

Hearing her apology, Jackson’s eyes settled on Oneida’s face. 

His gaze was dark and fathomless. 

Who would have thought that he, Jackson, would be at the mercy of a young girl, played to the point of losing his composure? 

“Let’s go,” Jackson changed the subject and strode forward. Seeing this, Oneida had no choice but to follow. 

Jackson checked the rope, preparing to ascend with Oneida in tow. “Come here,” he beckoned to Oneida, signaling her to come closer. Oneida obediently walked towards him. 

But then, without warning, Knight’s hand shot out, grasping Oneida around the waist. 

The next second, her body was lifted up into the air. As Jackson used the rope to climb upwards, he held onto Oneida. It seemed effortless for him. 

Yet Oneida’s heart surged up and down, an unusual sensation blossoming from deep within. 

Oneida thought to herself, ‘He’s actually carrying me like this…‘ 

On one hand, Oneida admired his physical strength, and on the other- For some reason, Oneida felt a faint stir of emotion within her. 

This was the first time Oneida’d been so completely and wholeheartedly protected by someone. 

“Actually, you don’t have to do this…” Oneida’s voice came out muffled, “I can manage on my own…”

Oneida was speaking the truth. 

For Oneida, this level of climbing was a piece of cake. 

But Jackson did not believe her.

So, he insisted on carrying Oneida as he climbed. 

“Just hold on to me,” Jackson instructed in a low, determined voice, and then, with pursed lips, he continued upward. 

Oneida looked up, silently observing the man’s profile. 

His stunning features, shimmering uncertainly in the shadows, and the smooth elegance of his jawline were right before her eyes… 

At that moment, Oneida actually found this man extraordinarily handsome… Oneida thought, ‘What am I even thinking?‘ 

Annoyed with herself, Oneida averted her gaze. 

Oneida thought, ‘What’s gotten into me… Is it because I haven’t seen Jackson for so long? Why is my heart so unstable at the sight of a man… I wasn’t like this before. 

The Oneida of the past was mostly cold and callous. 

And now, in front of Knight whom Oneida’d only met once, Oneida felt a faint stirring in her heart. 

She felt she wasn’t supposed to. 

Oneida chanted Jackson’s name in her heart. Oneida could not be unfaithful to Jackson. 

Before Oneida knew it, the scenery brightened, and Oneida found herself back in the cave, carried by the man from the base of the cliff to solid ground again.
