Quentin’s gaze lingered on Sebastian for a moment before snapping back to Citrine.

His temper flared up instantly, and he shouted at her, uncaring who was around. “Unbelievable, Citrine Carmichael! You really are something else. Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Hastings is a wreck because of you—he’s barely holding it together. Theo Glenwood is beside himself, acting like he can’t go on without you.”

And the worst part? Quentin couldn’t get her out of his own head either. No matter what he did, she was all he could think about.

“Do you even have a heart?” Quentin glared at Citrine, brimming with indignation, like he was catching his own girlfriend cheating.

A wreck? Can’t go on without me?

Citrine actually burst out laughing, more out of exasperation than amusement. There was a mocking glint in her eyes as she replied, cold and sharp, “And how exactly is that my problem?”

It was like Quentin had punched a pillow—no resistance, just sinking frustration. He jabbed a finger at her, wounded and furious. “You keep stringing them along, and now you’re… you’re flirting with someone else? How is that not your problem?”

Sebastian, standing off to the side, raised an eyebrow and shot Quentin a cool look. “It’s not Citrine chasing after me. I’m the one who made the first move.”

Citrine turned her head, meeting Sebastian’s eyes. She parted her lips, as if about to speak, but ultimately said nothing.

Watching the two exchange glances right in front of him, Quentin nearly ground his teeth to dust. He fixed Sebastian with a hard stare. “No one asked for your commentary.”

Then he turned his fury back on Citrine, as if she’d personally betrayed him. “Citrine Carmichael, you’re a piece of work. A real heartbreaker.”

“Heartbreaker?” Citrine repeated, drawing out the word, a playful lilt in her voice.

She looked Quentin up and down, clearly amused. “Funny, because from what I’ve heard, Mr. Aldridge, you practically live at the club. You don’t have a girlfriend, sure, but you go through dates faster than you change your shirts. And you have the nerve to call me names? Have you no shame?”
