Chapter 107
Inside Percy Gardens, Hendrix sat in his study, scanning emails on the screen as his fingers drummed lightly on the phone beside him.
Notifications kept popping up on his feed, but he only glanced at them, uninterested.
It was past 11:00 pm when the front door creaked open.
Hendrix stopped tapping on his phone but didn’t get up. Instead, he turned off his screen with an unreadable expression.
Noelle moved quietly, her steps barely making a sound. She checked his bedroom first, but when she found it empty, she headed to the study.
The door was closed, and she stood outside for a while, not making a move.
Hendrix ignored her, his face blank as he looked at the computer screen.
Two minutes passed before she finally knocked.
However, Hendrix didn’t respond. After a brief hesitation, Noelle turned the handle and opened the door.
“You’re… still working?” she asked softly, standing in the doorway.
Hendrix finally looked up.
Noelle had just showered, her damp hair clinging to her neck. She twisted her fingers nervously as she hesitat by the door.
“I didn’t see your message until just now,” she said quickly, “I came over as soon as I did. Sorry…
When Hendrix didn’t tell her to leave, Noelle cautiously stepped closer to him. However, she kept her distance, stopping a few feet from his desk, her eyes intentionally avoiding the screen.
The silence stretched between them.
Hendrix waited a little longer, but soon, his patience wore thin. In one smooth motion, he pulled her onto his lap
“Where did you go?” He lowered his gaze to her, his expression unreadable, but the intensity of his stare made Noelle feel exposed, unable to escape it.
“I…I just went for a walk,” she stammered.
“Alone?”
“No, with a friend…”
“What friend?”
Noelle hesitated. She wasn’t sure why he was suddenly so curious. He’d never asked about her personal life before
not that she had much of one. Yet, she knew better than to mention Clark, understanding Hendrix’s nature
He didn’t love her, but his possessiveness remained. That was why he’d proposed the two–year “agreement” In the first place.
Though she and Clark had only wandered through a food festival and shared a few snacks, Hendrix could still it as betrayal.
Noelle bit her lip and finally said, “Evelyn.”
