Noelle saw Hendrix again two months later. It was at an auction Brandon had brought her to. 

At the time, she was in the backyard, and standing before her was Clark, whom she hadn’t seen in months, either. Compared to their last meeting, he seemed much more dejected. His face had clearly grown thinner, but when he faced her, he still managed to force a smile. 

“It’s been a while, Noelle.” 

Inwardly, she cursed Brandon several times for bringing her there, but on the surface, she maintained her polite 

smile. 

“Yes, it has,” she said. 

“How have you been these days?” Clark asked. 

“Pretty good.” 

“Haven’t you and Mr. Freeman reconciled?” 

The moment he said that, memories of that humiliating night in the car came flooding back to Noelle’s mind. Her hands at her sides clenched slightly before she finally replied, “No.” 

Clark fell silent. 

Noelle, however, couldn’t bear the quiet tension hanging in the air. So, she said directly, “Please excuse me.” 

As soon as she spoke, she started to move forward, but Clark suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist. 

“Then, why not be with me?” he asked seriously. 

“I don’t-” 

She instinctively tried to refuse, but he interrupted her before she could finish, “I know you haven’t let go of your previous relationship yet. I know I may seem childish in your eyes, but I genuinely like you. And I really hope I can bring you happiness.” 

The words Noelle was about to say were swallowed back down. Although she felt no romantic feelings for Clark, his gaze and words at the time burned like flames, scorching a hole right through her heart. 

She opened her mouth, about to say something, but another voice suddenly cut through the air, “Clark Townsend! 

The voice was forceful and filled with unmistakable anger. Before Noelle could react, the speaker stormed over, shoving her aside with one swift motion.

“Oh, so this is why you’re not answering my calls or texts. thought you drowned in a toilet or something, but it turns out you’re here messing around with someone else!” 

The woman’s voice was sharp, and her gaze was venomous as it landed directly on Noelle. 

“You shameless vixen! Do you even know he’s my boyfriend? You filthy wretch!” 

As she spoke, the woman raised her hand, aiming to slap Noelle across the face, but Clark quickly grabbed her wrist and shouted, “What are you doing?”
