Chapter 149
It was precisely because of Hendrix’s calm demeanor that Noelle felt an even deeper sense of fear. This was the first time she had ever seen him like this.
Normally, someone fought when they were driven by anger. But it was the complete opposite with Hendrix just now. Noelle could sense that he was unnervingly calm.
In that brief moment, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Maxwell was nothing more than an insignificant object in Hendrix’s eyes–something he could control at will. Whether Maxwell lived or died seemed of no concern to him.
When Hendrix spoke again, Noelle was still frozen in shock Without sparing her another word, he glanced at her once more before pulling out his phone. Just as he was about to call the police, Noelle rushed forward and grabbed his hand to stop him.
“Don’t…”
Hendrix lowered his gaze to her, his eyes still devoid of any emotion.
“Let’s get him to the hospital first.” At last, Noelle found her voice.
Hendrix didn’t respond, nor did he move.
After waiting for a moment with no reaction from him, Noelle decided to grab her phone and make the call herself. But as her hand reached out, she realized she was still holding the scissors, and her phone was nowhere to be found.
Hendrix suddenly seized her wrist just as she turned to look for it.
“Why are you in such a hurry?” His voice remained as calm as ever, though there was a hint of confusion in his eyes as he watched Noelle. “Are you afraid he’s going to die?”
The question made Noelle’s heart skip a beat. She immediately looked up at him, stunned.
“Don’t worry. He’s not going to die,” Hendrix said again, his voice steady and composed.
Noelle found herself at a loss for words. In the end, she could only clench her teeth and continue to stare at him. Hendrix didn’t press the issue of calling the police. Instead he made a quick call to Dan, instructing him to come and handle the situation.
“Let’s go,” he said, hanging up the phone and pulling Noelle’s hand to leave.
Noelle’s expression shifted. “Go? Go where?”
“Don’t tell me you want to stay here?” Hendrix’s rhetorical question was so logical, so obvious, that Noelle didn’t know how to respond.
Hendrix’s movements were swift and decisive. Before Noelle could even react, he had already pulled her out of the door.
It had been years since Noelle had last set foot in Percy Gardens. As Hendrix opened the door, she immediately noticed that the layout and design were exactly the same as they had been the day she left. The place was meticulously clean, clearly maintained by the house cleane who came in every day.
But….
