Noelle had long grown accustomed to the Swansons‘ cursing at her. In the past, it often felt like a sharp sting, but it no longer affected her at all. She could even smile as she turned to face Matilda. 

“It’s a shame you didn’t do that back then because you’re incapable of doing anything now.” 

Matilda was left stunned, unable to find her voice. It wasn’t because of Noelle’s words but the way she had looked down at her arrogantly. 

Before this, Noelle had always looked at her with a timid, almost fearful expression, so when had things between them turned into this? 

Matilda didn’t know. All she could feel now was the blood in her veins slowly freezing, rendering her motionless. 

However, Noelle didn’t look back. She felt no regret for coming here today. After all, if she hadn’t overheard the conversation between Matilda and Sandra earlier, she wouldn’t have been so thoroughly disappointed in them. 

And it was this “test” that confirmed what she had already suspected–she was truly done with that family. There was no need for her to hold onto any hope anymore. 

To Noelle’s surprise, Sandra was waiting outside. When she saw Noelle come out, she immediately approached her. “What did you and Mom talk about? Did you agree to her request?” 

Sandra’s question made Noelle instantly realize that Sandra already knew. But then, she was not that surprised since Sandra was the one who made her come in the first place. Thus, she couldn’t have been unaware of what Matilda was plotting 

Noelle shot her a glance, too indifferent to reply, and simply walked past her. 

“I’d agree if I were you.” Sandra followed closely behind. “After all, she’s your biological mother. How could you just ignore her? If the media catches wind of this, who knows how they’ll twist the story?” 

Noelle didn’t respond, not even breaking her stride. 

Sandra felt as though she was talking to the wall. She clenced her teeth, and after a long pause, she spoke again, Noelle, do you really think you’re all that just because you have Hendrix backing you up?” 

The mention of Hendrix’s name finally made Noelle turn to look at Sandra. 

“I know you two are back together.” Sandra sneered. “I don’t know what kind of tricks you used to charm him, but Noelle, do you remember what you once said? What isn’t yours will never be yours?” 

“So?” 

“So, why don’t we settle once and for all who Hendrix will choose–me or you?” 

As night fell, Hendrix was leaving the office just as Sandra’s call came through. 

“Hey, Rix. Where are you?” cooed Sandra seductively in a husky voice. 

“Why do you ask?” 

“I’m at the bar, but I think I’ve had too much to drink. My head is spinning, so can you come pick me up?” 

“Call Dan.”
