Chapter 200
Despite the rushed nature of the wedding, all the important guests were still invited. Noelle, as the bride’s family, stood at the entrance with Craig.
She wore a champagne–colored gown, and her long hair was neatly styled up, exposing her slender neck. Her makeup was subtle, enhancing her natural beauty and giving her an exquisitely refined appearance.
Although her outfit was modest enough, it was inevitable that people would still gossip about her due to the recent events. They naturally didn’t say anything in front of Noelle, but the odd glances directed toward her still cut her like a knife.
However, Noelle had anticipated this would happen before arriving, so she didn’t react at all. Instead, she continued to greet everyone with a smile. It was at this moment that Ruth appeared.
She was dressed quite extravagantly, wearing a pale, moon white gown, seemingly unconcerned about clashing with the bride’s wedding dress. Her makeup was strikingly bold, so much so that before anyone had seen the bride, they were momentarily drawn to her.
Noelle greeted her with the same warmth, smiling as she offered a polite hello.
Ruth scoffed. “I can’t believe you still have the nerve to show your face here. You people really don’t have any shame. When has it become appropriate for a murderer to stand here and greet the guests?”
Craig’s expression immediately darkened at her words, but Noelle’s smile remained unchanged. “Ms. Upton, please watch your words.”
“Did I say something wrong?” Ruth glanced her over from head to toe. “The incident was all over the news recently, and I also heard that Hendrix dumped you again. How pathetic.
“But that’s how life is, isn’t it? No matter how hard you try, no matter what tricks you use, if something isn’t truly yours, it never will be.”
Ruth’s voice wasn’t exactly quiet. Not to mention, she was standing at the entrance. Thus, it didn’t take long before surrounding guests failed to suppress their amusement, and a few even let out sniggers.
Ruth grew even more smug, lifting her chin as she stared at Noelle. She fully expected Noelle to lose her composure–after all, what woman wouldn’t be in such a humiliating situation? But to her surprise, Noelle didn’t.
Noelle continued to smile at her and said, “Personally, I think getting something and then losing it is still far better than never having it at all.”
“What did you just say?” Ruth’s face immediately darkened
“I was merely speaking about Mr. Freeman and myself. Why are you so worked up, Ms. Upton? Unless there’s someone in your heart–someone you’ve poured all your efforts into, yet still can’t have?”
“Of course not!” Ruth shot back without hesitation.
“Well, then, that’s good to hear. Ms. Upton, I understand you don’t like me, but today is Sandra’s wedding- arguably the most important day of her life.
“And aren’t you her best friend? How could you bear to let anything go wrong on such an occasion? Or could it be that you never intended for this wedding to go smoothly in the first place?”
