“Yes,” Noelle replied without hesitation. 

“But even if you don’t trust me, it doesn’t change anything. After all, you’ll never get the evidence you’re looking 

for.” 

“True.” Noelle nodded. “But at the very least, I can make your life a lot less comfortable.” 

With that, she placed the used napkin on the table, then picked up the glass of water in front of her and without a second thought, splashed it right in Hendrix’s face. 

Water dripped down from his hair, trailing off the tips of his strands and clinging to his lashes like tiny droplets. 

Hendrix remained motionless, sitting there under the light, his face looking almost pale. 

Noelle didn’t spare him a single glance. She turned on her heels and started walking away, but Hendrix quickly grabbed her hand. In one swift motion, he pulled her back and forced her onto his lap, holding her firmly in place. 

“Is that it?” Hendrix smiled and looked at her. “This is your idea of making me uncomfortable? Isn’t that a bit childish?” 

Noelle didn’t respond. She simply stared back at him expressionlessly. 

After a moment of silence, Hendrix grabbed her chin and pressed his lips to hers. 

Noelle didn’t struggle. 

When Hendrix pushed her down, she even went along with it, placing her hands on his shoulder for support. Her reaction caught him off guard, so he looked at her. 

But in the next moment, Hendrix caught the mocking look in Noelle’s eyes questioning him, “Isn’t your approach just as childish?” 

Of course, Hendrix knew that. But what else could he do? 

He couldn’t think of anything. 

It was as if she were silently 

Even in this moment, with their bodies pressed together so tightly it seemed they were one, he still felt an overwhelming emptiness. It was as if something had bitten into his heart, tearing away a piece of flesh, and no matter what he did, he could never fill the void it left behind 

The wound refused to heal, and every slight movement sent waves of excruciating pain through him. So, he kept kissing her and taking from her, desperately trying to use this futile act to fill the emptiness inside him. 

“Penny, don’t look at me like that,” Hendrix said in a hoarse voice, the sound almost a plea. 

But in the next moment, Noelle slowly lowered her head and sank her teeth into his shoulder. She bit down hard, breaking the skin, and blood began to flow out. 

The sharp, physical pain seemed to give Hendrix’s inner torment–a place to escape. So, he didn’t push her away, and he didn’t even let out a sound 

In fact, it was almost as if Hendrix was worried Noelle hadn’t bitten hard enough–he even tilted his shoulder closer to her mouth. 

But Noelle quickly let go. 

When she glanced at his face, completely devoid of pain, she suddenly found the whole thing utterly meaningless. So, without hesitation, she raised her hand, intending to slap him across the face. At least that would cost him
