Hendrix was with Erwin. Despite taking a p h from Hendrix just the night before, Erwin didn’t seem to mind at all. When he saw Hendrix, he even offered him the cigar he was holding, to which Hendrix declined. 

“So, are you really cutting ties with me?” Erwin asked with smile. 

Hendrix didn’t return the smile. “I’ve quit smoking.” 

“Oh? Let me guess. Is it because of your wife?” 

Hendrix didn’t answer him. 

Erwin clicked his tongue. “You’re really no fun now, you know that? You used to be so carefree and unrestrained, and now, you’ve trapped yourself in the prison of marriage and a woman. Don’t you think that’s pitiful? 

“And honestly, I just don’t see it. What’s so special about her that has you so hopelessly devoted to her?” 

In Erwin’s eyes, Noelle might just pass as beautiful. Her intelligence? Not remarkable, but average enough. And it was this very “average” that made her seem all the more ordinary. If she were a fool, at least that would make her stand out. 

Hendrix cast him a glance and said casually, “Have you ever heard a story?” 

“Which one?” 

“After God created Adam, He thought Adam was too lonely So, while Adam was asleep, He took one of his ribs and created his companion, Eve. The two then lived together in the Garden of Eden…” 

Erwin couldn’t fathom why Hendrix would suddenly bring up such a cliche story. His brows furrowed tighter with every word. 

But before he could interrupt impatiently, Hendrix finished his point, “And that’s why Noelle is my rib. She’s a part of me the one in this world who fits me best.” 

Erwin suddenly found himself unable to come up with a suitable reply. 

Hendrix looked at him and continued, “Actually, in this world, everyone has someone like that–someone who completes them. You’re no exception. The difference is, I was lucky enough to have found mine. You, on the other hand, haven’t. So, if there’s anyone that’s pitiful here, it’s you.‘ 

Erwin hadn’t expected Hendrix to go to sucht lengths just to counter his earlier comment about him being pitiful. After staring at him for a moment, he replied calmly, “You’re crazy.” 

Hendrix couldn’t help but laugh. Not for any particular reason, but simply because he found the man in front of him just as crazy. After all, there Erwin was, so serious and composed while declaring that Hendrix was crazy? Wasn’t that laughable in itself? 

After a while, Hendrix finally stopped laughing. “I just want to let you know–what happened last night cannot happen again. If it does, it won’t just be a punch.” 

With that, he stood up. “I’ve settled the negotiation, and I’ve already sent the contract to your inbox. I have urgent matters to handle and need to return to Coppersville this afternoon. As for the rest of the work, we can coordinate them online.” 

Without waiting for Erwin to respond, Hendrix turned to leave.
