Chapter 433
The peaceful moment was shattered when Hendrix’s phone rang.
He frowned, having no intention to answer. But then, he remembered the important work dinner he had tonight.
After taking a deep breath, he straightened up and answered the call.
The person on the other end said something that made his frown deepen.
Finally, he replied softly, “Alright. I understand.”
With that, he hung up. Then, he turned to Noelle. “I’ve got to go.”
“Okay.” Noelle nodded calmly, as if the tender moment between them just moments ago had never happened.
But Hendrix didn’t plan to let her off so easily. He wrapped an arm around her waist and kissed her.
This kiss was different from his usual ones. It was gentle, warm, and lingering–Noelle couldn’t help but feel her body relax into the kiss.
She suddenly went weak in the knees, causing her hand to instinctively shoot up and clutch his collar tightly. Only when she was breathless, her cheeks flushed, did he finally relinquish her lips.
With one hand still cradling her face, Hendrix gently brushed his other thumb over her lips to wipe away the traces of their kiss.
“Alright. I’m going now.”
As he spoke, he glanced down at her hands.
It was only then Noelle realized she was still gripping his collar. The tips of her ears turned red, and she quickly let go.
Hendrix’s smirk deepened. He reached out to ruffle her hair. “Don’t wait up for me tonight. Get some early rest.”
“I know,” Noelle replied, but her eyes avoided his.
But Hendrix didn’t mind. He hugged her once more before putting on his coat and heading out.
The temperature outside was much colder than indoors. Hendrix wasn’t usually bothered by the cold, but now, he couldn’t help but shiver once he stepped outside.
Then, he found himself desperately longing for the warmth inside the room. He instinctively turned toward the building behind him–the light in Noelle’s room was still on.
Levi had the car ready, the door already opened.
But Hendrix stood still, staring at a particular window as if waiting for something–or someone–to appear.
“Mr. Freeman?”
Even when Levi called him curiously, Hendrix didn’t move.
Finally, he saw the curtains shift, and immediately after, Noelle appeared at the window.
And just like that, they locked eyes with each other.
A smile immediately appeared on Hendrix’s lips.
Noelle, however, froze for a moment before decisively closing the curtains.
