Chapter 444
Noelle had no idea how she ended up in this place. She only remembered getting out of Hendrix’s car and crossing
the street.
Then, someone tapped her on the shoulder. Before she could even turn around, a hand had already covered her mouth and nose.
And then, she passed out.
When she opened her eyes again, she was in an unfamiliar room. Her hands and feet were tightly bound, and the air was thick with the stench of mold.
The only source of light was a faint sliver of moonlight seeping through a small window, while the rest of the room was swallowed in darkness.
Noelle had no idea who had brought her here, let alone what their intentions were. Because until now, she hadn’t even seen their faces.
Just as she was searching the room for something to cut through the ropes, the old, creaking door swung open.
She immediately turned her head..
The moment she saw the person standing in the doorway, her eyes widened slightly. “It’s you!”
Jean let out a cold laugh. “You look surprised. What? You never thought I could do something like this?”
Noelle took a deep breath. “Ms. Fisher, is it really necessary for someone of your status to do something like this?”
“Necessary? You’re asking me if this is necessary?” Jean’s smirk slowly faded. “I just can’t stand you, Noelle. It drives me crazy knowing how much I’m struggling while you’re out there living so happily.”
As she spoke, her gaze drifted downward and settled on Noelle’s stomach. “How far along are you?”
Noelle hadn’t expected her to bring that up. Her expression shifted, and she shrank back instinctively.
That weak attempt to retreat only made Jean laugh.
“What’s the point of hiding? Do you think that just because you’re like this now, I’ll suddenly go soft on you?”
As she spoke, she reached out and prodded Noelle’s stomach.
It wasn’t a hard touch–just a small, deliberate movement. But a jolt shot through Noelle, and her eyes snapped. up in alarm. “Don’t touch me!”
Her voice was sharp, completely unlike the calm she had maintained earlier.
Jean, however, didn’t get angry. She simply watched Noelle for a moment before saying, “Relax. I won’t do anything to your child. No matter how much I hate you, the baby is innocent.”
Noelle didn’t believe a single word, because even as Jean spoke, she pulled out a small knife.
Noelle’s eyes widened slightly.
“It’s just that I can’t stand looking at your face,” Jean said.
Since young, Jean’s biggest insecurity had always been her own face. She wasn’t ugly in the slightest, but she was just so ordinary–looking.
When she grew up, she had intended to change her appearance through other means. But because of Brian’s status
