The dining table was left with just the two of them–mother and son.
“When are you moving back in?” Beatrice asked calmly, taking a sip of her soup.
Hendrix furrowed his brows.
“I asked you to move out before because it was inconvenient for you to live here with Noelle. Now that you’re divorced, you might as well move back,” Beatrice continued.
“No need,” Hendrix replied. “It’s more convenient where fam now.”
“What’s convenient about it? Bringing a new girlfriend back?” Beatrice’s words sounded calm, but to Hendrix’s ears, they were laced with subtle mockery.
He set his cutlery down and looked at her with a neutral expression.
However, Beatrice seemed unaffected and continued, “I’m serious. If you think your father’s matchmaking was a mistake, then go ahead and make your own choices. I won’tstop you.”
Beatrice paused, then added, “There’s only one thing–Sandra. I will never allow her in this house.”
“Why?” Hendrix asked.
Beatrice’s face darkened. “Are you really thinking of marrying her?”
“I’m just curious–why do you hate Sandra so much?”
Beatrice gave a cold laugh. “Do I need a reason to hate someone?”
Hendrix was at a loss for a reply.
Beatrice picked up where she left off. “As long as it’s not Sandra, I won’t oppose you being with anyone.”
“I thought you could only see…” Hendrix hesitated for a moment before finishing the sentence, “the one 111! father chose for me.”
It seemed he didn’t even want to mention Noelle’s name.
“Noelle?” Beatrice continued to smile. “That’s right. I do like her, but so what? You’re divorced now, and she’s already moved on, going out on blind dates with other people. Am I supposed to hold onto her and not let go?”
Hendrix narrowed his eyes. “Blind dates?”
“Yes. I ran into her today at the concert hall. She was with am.”
“Oh?” Hendrix chuckled. “The cripple from the Hawthorne family?”
“Yes.”
“The Swansons really are desperate, aren’t they?”
Beatrice laughed, too. “Hendrix, if I were you, I’d take a hand look at why Noelle would rather choose a cripple over staying married to you.”
With that, she stood up and left the table.
