Walter casitally walked over to her and gently tucked the hair behind her car. “So, were you bored waiting? I’m free for the rest of the day, so I can spend it with you.” 

Shakira raised an eyebrow. “Really? It’s still early. Are you sure you don’t have more work to do?” 

She thought for a moment. “After you finish work, do you want to go to rehab?” Walter replied calmly, “Not today, I’ll go 

tomorrow.” 

“Oh. When you go to rehab tomorrow, call me along, and I’ll accompany you,” Shakira suggested with a cheerful smile. 

Walter instinctively frowned, about to refuse, but Shakira tugged on his arm playfully. “Come on, let me go with you. Otherwise, I’ll be just playing video games all day, and I’m getting really bored.” 

She rarely acted so cute and playful with him, so how could Walter refuse? He agreed, “Alright, but you can only watch, no helping me out.” Shakira made an “ok” gesture. “No problem, I promise not to disturb Mr. Lopez’s big rehab mission.” 

Walter pinched her nose, with a smile spreading on his face. He couldn’t contain his little secret anymore and said, “Rehab’s been going great these past few days. I can slowly let go of the support and walk a bit on my own now.” 

“Really? Isn’t that a little too fast? You just started recovering, and you don’t need to hurry…” Walter interrupted her, “The doctor says my progress is fine. If you don’t believe me, take a look.” 

As if to prove his point, he moved his wheelchair to the space at the foot of the bed, holding onto the chair to slowly stand up. Shakira instinctively held her breath, watching him take steps toward her- 

His eyes were completely focused on her, with each step slow but steady and determined. Shakira’s heart pounded fiercely. 

Walter’s face beamed with satisfaction. “So, do you believe me now?” This time, Shakira didn’t wait for him to approach and dashed towards him without hesitation. 

This was the first time they were in such a position. He was a head taller than her, and she could just barely wrap her arms around his waist, holding tightly. 

She buried her face in his chest, saying softly, “Yes, I believe you. Walter, I trust you.” Walter looked down at her, and seeing how deeply she relied on him stirred something indescribable in his heart. 

He lifted his arm to embrace her shoulder, and they hugged tightly, wishing they could merge into each other’s bones and blood. 

Bang–the sudden sound of something heavy hitting the floor startled them, making them realize someone else had entered the ward. 

Walter’s face darkened, and his eyes were icy as he looked at the person who interrupted their moment. Shakira was the first to gasp, “Benton?” 

Benton stood awkwardly bent at the door, wearing a smile that looked more like a grimace. His heart was like a piece of fruit that had fallen and rolled on the ground, outwardly intact but secretly decayed inside. 

Benton thought, ‘It was over–my future was doomed… What exactly had I seen?‘ 

Seeing Mr. Lopez and Shakira hugging was shocking enough, but the real revelation was Mr. Lopez standing on his own. Had he uncovered a massive family secret? 

Damn it, he was in real trouble. Walter glared at him coldly, with his eyes intense enough to rip him apart. “How did you even get in here?”

Benton swallowed with difficulty. “Mr. Lopez, I swear, I knocked first. I really did. Both Walter and Shakira were speechless. 

It was absolutely necessary to install a doorbell. Shakira said, “Maybe the knock was too soft, and we didn’t hear it… Ahem. Benton, what brings you here unexpectedly?” 

Benton quickly crouched down to pick up the fruits. “I’m just here to check on Shakira. I heard you got injured, and as a leader, I definitely had to come by to see how you’re doing.” 

As Benton spoke, he felt like crying inside. He hadn’t thought that a simple visit to check on someone could almost cost him 

his life. 

Shakira helped Walter back into his wheelchair and crouched down to help pick up the fruits. “Thank you for your concern, Benton. It’s just a minor injury, and I’ll be fine after a few days of rest.” 

“A few days won’t be enough, Shakira. Don’t worry, Maris has told me about the project. You were the main contributor, and

Walter chuckled without any emotion. “I didn’t expect you to be such a considerate leader.” Benton stiffened. “You’re too kind, Mr. Lopez. I learn from you.” 

Walter glanced at him sideways and sneered. “You learn from me? What are you hoping to learn?” Benton swallowed hard, feeling like he was about to pass out from fear.
