"There are plenty of good jobs out there too. Even without me, you would've done well at any other company, because you're both independent and hardworking," Zane said.

Steven set his work aside and sighed. "Then what should I do, Chloe? How can I get her to forgive me and take me back?"

Chloe sat down across from him. "Simple. Focus on your life with Jessica and stop bothering Annalise."

Steven shook his head, looking defeated. "I've tried that already. It doesn't work. When she sees me happy with someone else, she just feels relieved. She thinks it means I'll stop bothering her."

Steven couldn’t explain why, but any time he talked about Annalise, he felt a heavy weight in his chest.

"It doesn't matter whether I'm doing well or not. She doesn't care anymore," he added.

Chloe snorted. "Then stop caring about her too."
