"I..." I looked at Theo, my words eluding me for a long time.
Theo pulled back when he saw me that way, his expression softening gradually. “I'm sorry. I shouldn't talk to you like this."
His soothing tone eased me, and I shook my head. "It's okay. I understand where you’re coming from. I really don't know much about Neil, but to me, he’s just a normal friend. I only asked because I don’t know why you don’t like him.”
My head was lowered, my red lips pursed.
Theo's large, warm hand reached over and enveloped the back of mine. His expression was serious as he held my hands, his tone even more so. "Wanda, all you need to know is that I’m always thinking about what’s best for you. That would be enough."
"Of course, I know that. I suppose you have your reasons for not liking Neil. You can tell me when you feel like it. I don’t usually see Neil anyway." I chose to compromise and smiled slightly as I looked at Theo.
Theo must have his reasons. I was willing to believe him.
He held me with both his hands, a smile finally gracing his features. "That’s good, then. Go ahead and drive us home then, Madam.”
Theo smiled and my mood lifted as well. Nodding, I continued driving.
It was still very early when we got home. Since we did not eat anything at the conference just now, I went into the kitchen and made some noodles before calling Theo down to eat.
"You haven't eaten anything since this evening. I cooked some noodles. Let’s eat them together." I dragged Theo to the dining room to take a seat.
“Thank you.” Theo looked at me and said adoringly all of a sudden.
I smiled lightly. “It’s just noodles. You don’t need to thank me for this. By the way, Nina and Jason are getting married on the tenth of the coming month. You’re probably free that day, right?”
“I’ll arrange this in advance.”
Disappointment was obvious in Shannon’s voice when she heard my answer. "He’s asleep, and I’m really bored alone."
"Wash up and go sleep early, then. Or deal with some work. There’s still a lot of data that are not tallied. Stop thinking about going out to play."
"Alright then, you workaholic. Bye!"
Shannon immediately ended the call. I looked at the darkened phone screen and shook my head helplessly. "This woman."
"What's wrong with Shannon?"
"It’s nothing. She wanted to go out and have fun, but I stopped her. She’s been going out way too much recently. Probably because Jordan isn’t here." I went back to my noodles, but my mind remained on Shannon’s change.
