"You consort with the Vexoth. I could never consider you one of my own." Analise's gaze hardened, her voice colder than ever.

"Consort with?" Sean paused, mulling over the words. "No, no, Ms. Chamber, I think there's been a misunderstanding. Even if we stand on opposite sides, isn't that a bit harsh?"

Analise's eyes remained steely. "Which side are you on? And who exactly are you?"

Sean spread his hands with a casual grin. "I'm Sean. Maybe not the Sean they know, but he's still Sean. After all, there are countless worlds. Why should there be only one of me? You understand what I mean, don't you, Ms. Chamber?"

How could she not? It was a classic transmigration scenario. Same name, different person. Sean wasn't Sean, but he was a Sean. He was himself, just no longer the original.

Analise raised a brow, giving him a weird look. "Men watch period dramas?"

Sean rolled his eyes. "And why not? Besides, you're missing the point."

She narrowed her gaze, noticing something off about the way he moved earlier. It was almost as if he'd been jolted by electricity. "Are you..."

"Yes!" Sean cut in before she could finish. Then, after a beat, he added, "I was just trying to provoke Scott."

That wasn't it. Analise locked eyes with Sean, noticing the slight flicker in his gaze as if he were trying to keep her from asking that question.

"You really have no shame. You stole your mother's love, killed her, and now you want to provoke Scott," Analise sneered.

Scott, whose wrist was still gripped by Analise, was momentarily stunned. He looked down in surprise at the much shorter girl.

Was she standing up for him?
