"I know, Liam. It's just... hard." She sighed, leaning into my embrace.

"It is," I agreed, leading her towards my car, which surprised her. "But you're not alone. You have me, and you have our pack. We'll face this together." I dangled the car keys in front of her.

"But that can all start tomorrow. For now, let's go save that idiot's ass," I said with a smile, injecting a bit of lightness into the heavy night.

Lottie chuckled weakly, a small spark of her old spirit flickering in her eyes as we headed to the car. For tonight, we would set aside the weights of duty and destiny and just be siblings on a rescue mission.

"But if anyone asks, you forced me, right?" I grinned, moving to the passenger side of the car to open the door for her. But she clearly had other ideas as she slid into the driver's seat. Her lips stretched into an enormous smile as she caressed the steering wheel.

"No, no, no." I laughed, rushing back around to the driver's side. "Adam WILL murder me." I muttered.

"He will have to get in line. Chase is going to skin you," V added privately, making me wince because he was right.

"Come on, Liam. You are the only brother who does not treat me like a human incubator. Let me drive, please." She shined, her lips pulling into a pout that would usually make me laugh and dig my heels in, but something about her words struck me. She liked that I treated her normally. Maybe that was our thing. With a nod, I leaned over her and clipped the seat belt in.

"Safety first." V announced sarcastically.

"Fine," I smiled. But this HAS to be our secret," I announced with a smile as I closed the door and let out the breath I hadn't realised I was holding.

"V thinks you're too fat to drive." I laughed, deciding to throw my wolf under the bus. I felt V force control and knew she would see the yellows of him in my eyes as he begged her not to listen. But fuck him, she needed the joke, and I knew she could take it.

"No offence, Vicious, but I have seen you in wolf form, and I am not the only chunky one in the family." she teased, her smile reaching her eyes. "But I am pregnant; what's your excuse, dude?" she added with a wink that had him laughing low, his mood easing as he settled back to watch her through my eyes.

"She is ok." I stated softly, knowing this was more than just about watching her; he wanted to be ready to tear through this car and save her beautiful, feisty ass if he needed to.

"Now buckle up, brother, and let me show you what a fatty can do when allowed some freedom." She laughed, the sound music to my ears as his foot hit the gas, and we lunged forward.
