Liam's POV

A figure stepped into the doorway—a woman, ethereal and otherworldly. She wore flowing robes of deep emerald that seemed to shimmer with their own inner light. Her skin was pale, almost translucent, and her eyes glowed with an unsettling white intensity. Long hair, the colour of moonlight, cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face that was both hauntingly beautiful and deeply unnerving as she pursed those bright pink lips as if us being here was a nuisance.

"Is he dead?" she asked calmly, her voice carrying a melodic yet chilling tone that sent a shiver down my spine. The glimmer in her eyes suggested she already knew the answer. Her gaze held a hint of amusement as if she relished the tension her words created. It was clear she was asking merely for effect, savouring our uncertainty and distress.

Chase and I exchanged a tense glance. Instinctively, I stepped protectively between her and Knox, my muscles tensing. But her eyes remained fixed on Knox, a slight lift to the corner of her lips betraying a hint of smugness. It was as if she knew more about him—about all of us—than she let on.

"Knox, I assume," she said, her gaze roaming over him appraisingly. There was an unsettling confidence in her demeanour, as though she held all the cards in a game we didn't even know we were playing.

"Who are you?" I demanded, my voice harsher than intended. "What do you want?" She tilted her head slightly, a curious smile playing on her lips.

"You're in no position to ask questions, but perhaps I can be of assistance," she replied smoothly.

"You?" Chase whispered aimlessly, and I noticed him staring at her intently, a flicker of recognition in his eyes.

"Me." She smiled rather too sweetly for my liking. Looking back at Chase it was as if he had seen her before, though I couldn't fathom how that was possible. His usual bravado seemed diminished in her presence, replaced by a mix of awe and uncertainty.

"Can you help him?" Chase interjected, desperation overriding caution. His voice wavered slightly, betraying the depth of his concern.

"Perhaps," she mused, taking a graceful step forward. Her movements were fluid, almost as if she were gliding rather than walking. "But help often comes at a price."

I scoffed inwardly. Of course, there was a price. There always was with beings like her. Stories of deities and spirits demanding steep payments for their aid flashed through my mind. I was well aware of the costs such entities could demand, and I wasn't eager to make a deal without knowing the terms.

My instincts screamed at me not to trust her. The sense of underlying immorality we'd felt since arriving intensified with her presence. But with Knox's life hanging in the balance, what choice did we have?

"Name your price," Chase said quickly, his desperation palpable. He took a step toward her, his fists clenched at his sides. The urgency in his voice was raw, unfiltered.

"All in due time. First, tell me—how did you come to be here?" She smiled wider, revealing unnaturally white and sharp canines. I hesitated, glancing at Chase. Confusion swirled in my mind.
