Chapter 307: Chapter 299. Alluding Storm

Zein realized he was getting attacked before he was down. And he realized he was getting abducted when he opened his eyes, since he was inside a moving vehicle. freewēbnoveℓ.com

The first thing he noticed was that his arms were bound. It was something like cable ties, so he couldn’t rip it off without using magic energy. The second thing he noticed was that he was low on magic energy. Getting sick apparently done that, since your mana would circulate trying to prevent your body from succumbing even more. And he hadn’t been guiding anyone these days, including Bassena.

The third thing he noticed was that he did not bring his storage ring. He took it off when he was wiping himself, and didn’t wear it back, since he was at home anyway. He didn’t know if he had to curse or think it was a blessing, however. He was sure these people would have taken the ring off of him if he wore it, and that might be worse.

Thinking he might lose the Black Pearl that Bassena gave him--and the ring from Xue Ren--to whoever abducted him felt worse than not having anything to defend himself.

Strangely enough, Zein felt calmer than he thought he would be. Oh, he knew he was in a shitty situation, and he was worried about the nanny, but he also knew help would be on their way soon. Perhaps not immediately, but there was no way Bassena wouldn’t do anything after seeing he wasn’t there. He believed Radia would be able to find him, and if Jock was there to coordinate, they would be able to move efficiently.

So all he gotta do was survive until then. Until those people come. Zein had no idea what these people wanted from him, but even if they tortured him, he just needed to grit his teeth and hold on until rescue came. Shin would heal him anew, and everything would be fine.

Yes, everything would be fine.

"Hey, you said he’ll be out until tomorrow, why is he awake now?" Zein heard someone speak. And then he felt his head getting yanked back to face the ceiling.

In his peripheral vision, he could see two people staring at him; espers, three-stars. "So he really is a special guide. No wonder the Guildmaster wants him so much."

"Shut it!"

Someone on the front barked at them--also three-star. The one Zein most warry off was the one sitting in the front passenger seat. A five-star, if his detection wasn’t wrong, and probably the one who managed to bring these people into Bassena’s apartment. Even though Zein couldn’t see that person, he could feel a certain vibe that made him sure that person came from the underworld--probably a branded criminal.

But they said ’Guildmaster’...

The only guildmaster he knew might want him was...Celestia? But did Celestia go so low as to use a criminal for their operation? If they were caught, it was basically announcing that they were a rogue guild.

If they were caught, that is.

Zein almost couldn’t stop himself from chuckling. Almost, because he realized then that he didn’t wear his mask, and now he felt like cursing instead.

Of all things, more than not having his weapon or magic energy, this felt more debilitating for him. Especially when the esper who grabbed his hair did not release him, and kept staring at him with a smirk.

For better or for worse, the vehicle stopped then, and the esper grabbed his midriff to carry him outside, slung him over his shoulder. A glance at the vehicle told him it was a delivery van. They carried him inside a building that seemed to be a logistics office or something. From the quality of the air, Zein could tell they were still inside a green-zone, perhaps even inside Althrea.

"What? You’re going back...umm, Sir?" the driver, who seemed to be the leader of the operation, faced the mysterious five-star. The man must feel icky having to call a possible criminal with ’Sir’, but rank was everything in the Sentinel community after all.

"My job here is done," the mysterious esper replied dryly with a robotic voice that hid their gender. And then, without saying anything anymore, that person walked away and disappeared behind the gate of the building complex, leaving the driver muttering curses under his breath.

Well, it seemed like he was only paid for breaching the apartment and abducting Zein, no more. Should he call it a blessing that the most powerful individual was out of the picture?

"What are you doing stopping over there instead of bringing the package inside?" another voice greeted Zein’s hearing. Heavy, authoritative. The mana core told him it was a four-star. Probably the one operating this place.

Haa...one after another.

"But, Sir, that person..."

"Let them be, just get him inside before any drone picks it up," the four-star grumbled before stepping back inside. "That person is only useful for breaking and entering, anyway."

So it was as Zein thought. Well, someone with that high of an ability usually only focused in one direction, just like the person who infiltrated the Mogu Temple and recorded Zein’s confrontation with the Saintess.

Before long, Zein’s vision changed into the interior of a building. He tried to spread his consciousness, feeling how many people were in the building while trying his best to act like he was helpless. To his surprise, there were not as many people as he thought. He sensed two two-star espers standing guards on the first floor, and another three one-star espers on the second floor, doing menial office work and acting like nothing happened.

So the four-star was the strongest here, Zein noted. But he wasn’t the ’head’ of the operation--the kidnapping one. He was the head of this place, which was only a middle point before they took Zein away to wherever.

His conjecture was confirmed when the four-star asked. "When will they come to pick him up?"

"They were already on their way, should be in a few hours," the driver said just as Zein got thrown onto one of the couches.
