Chapter 315 - 307. Rotten Fruits novel There's No Love In the Deathzone (BL)
Inside one of the executive lounges, which was under exclusive use the Guildmaster, Xue Ren sat sulkily on Alcor’s lap with a headphone and a tablet in his hands, pursing his lips in annoyance.
But there was nothing he could do--it was either that or spending time in another room, watching movies alone. He understood that he barged into the twins’ important meeting for his own selfish reason, so he agreed to just watch his drama series quietly while the others made the serious talk.
He was rather envious, though, looking at Zein conversing with the other high-ranking espers equally. It wasn’t like Azure treated their guides horribly, but still...they wouldn’t talk about serious matters with the guides. They were just another employee, after all. He was an exception because he was the Guildmaster’s exclusive guide, but the twins wouldn’t discuss guild business in front of him.
Not that he would understand much, but sometimes it made him feel left out. He knew though, it wasn’t his place to intrude. He was lucky enough to be adored by the twins, so he didn’t want to do anything that would annoy them.
Still, he felt envious, because Zein looked like he was a part of the ’inner circle’, or something like that. Well, for now, he would just keep the envy in his heart. Maybe if he became as good as Zein in the future...
"So you told them?" Zein started the conversation by asking for confirmation, looking at Radia rather sharply.
"I need their cooperation," Radia replied calmly with a smile. "I need to appeal the urgency."
"Hmm..."
[Worry not, Master only told them you were abducted] A voice came inside Zein’s mind, and he glanced toward the summoned secretary in livery, the one called Nyx.
"Alright," Zein could take it if it was just that much.
He did doubt that Radia would go so far as to disclose the details of what transpired that day without his agreement, but then again, it was Radia, so he could never let his guard down.
Especially because Bassena told him Radia seemed to be more sensitive than usual.
"So, what kind of cooperation it is?" he asked.
The twins looked at Radia too, then, because they also hadn’t heard about it. "I need a cover-up," Radia replied, leaning against his desk while tapping the expensive wooden surface.
Alcor, who liked to fight as much as Ashur Iddina, perked up even while holding his guide in his lap. "You’re going to hit them?" and then, he shifted his gaze to the older twin. "Brother, are we going to join too?"
It was clear in his blazing eyes that he wanted to attack Celestia just for the fun of it, which made the older twin sigh and messaged his neck. It must have been stressful for him, as a support, to reign in his warrior twin.
"Is it already determined that it was Celestia?" Mizar asked. As a Guildmaster of one of the biggest guilds, he couldn’t just jump into a conflict between other guilds. He had hundreds of members to take care of, after all.
"Who else could it be?" Bassena replied coldly. "We received the tip from someone stationed in Celestia’s branch, and the people we’re detaining right now are confirmed to be members."
"Yes, that makes sense!" Alcor enthusiastically replied. As they thought, he just wanted to mess with Celestia.
To their surprise, however, Radia responded rather differently. "No," he said, prompting the others to look at him with raised brows. "The perpetrators are indeed from Celestia, and based on what Zein heard, they might be under the order of their guildmaster."
"But?" Zein raised his gaze; the sharp edges he had been hiding in front of Xue Ren were coming back in full force, startling not only the young guide, but also the twins.
Radia, however, replied calmly with a smile. "But it doesn’t mean the whole Celestia is in on it," he said. "It’s a guild with thousands of members with at least three different factions, and it hadn’t been long since that manchild became the Guildmaster. I wouldn’t say what he wants represents the whole guild."
He glanced at Mizar, who also led a guild with a lot of members. The older twin sighed and nodded in agreement. "That’s right, especially because we are only the guildmaster, not the owner--unlike you," he smiled bitterly. "There’s too much vested interests in other guilds. Although Celestia’s leadership is passed on through blood, they still have to answer to investors. And each investor usually has their own puppets inside the guilds."
"Agh--so complicated," Bassena clicked his tongue. But he understood; Golden Viper might look like a family guild, but they had sponsors whom he still hadn’t found out.
"Aren’t you thankful for my existence, boys?" Radia smirked and spread his arms like the magnificent owner-guildmaster that he was.
Bassena and Zein scoffed, but they did feel thankful for Radia. It was just annoying to admit it openly when the person himself knew it.
"So, are you saying we shouldn’t cast judgment?" Bassena tilted his head.
"No, I’m saying we should be selective with our judgment," Radia said. "We only need to cut out the rotten fruit, not the whole tree."
Bassena pressed his lips in dissatisfaction as he rummaged through Radia’s mini bar. Radia told him he could vent all he liked, but now they had to be careful about it? He could already see that it would take quite some time, in a roundabout way, before he could demand payment.
Hmm...could he at least use the captured Celestia members as a punching bag or something?
"How boring," Alcor, who was thirsty for bloodshed, clicked his tongue. "I thought we would see some action."
Bassena nodded while giving Zein the drink he plundered from the fridge. "Agreed."
"Haa... these kids," Radia shook his head in exasperation. These people were spending so much of their time battling that all they could think about was resolving things through brute force. "There is no good thing coming out of destroying the biggest guild in the East Federation. However much we hate them, Celestia is still the home of many talented espers, and we still need their power to face the dungeons."
Radia’s sharp gaze and dry tone sounded like an admonition, and Bassena recalled the days he had to endure Radia’s ’lesson’ in the academy. "Ugh..."
Looking at Bassena sharply, Radia threw out a question. "Do you know why Golden Viper could go on so long despite their rotten attitude?"
Hesitatingly, the Saint-class answered. "Because they’re needed."
