Within the inadequate light around the lake, the blue eyes shone brightly, reflecting the dancing flame for the campfire. "You’re not my type," the guide said calmly.
The man’s aloofness was intriguing, despite the clear disadvantageous of his position. Was he just acting calm, since there was nothing he could do? The female five-star esper, Ali, looked at the guide amusedly. She was supposed to bring the guide immediately after the Serpent Lord got sealed, but that wouldn’t be fun, would it?
She stopped at the edge of the dock, across the guide, and tilted her head in ponder. "Hmm...could it be...you’re not actually alone?"
The blue eyes blinked, and a mana barrier shimmered around the guide; the kind that came from a skill, not from an equipment. Right after, she could hear groans from her earpiece, which meant the two scouts hiding in the forest were being attacked.
Her brow arched. "Oh, how curious. We didn’t sense anyone all this time. Where did you hide those people?"
The guide shrugged. "What makes you think I’ll tell you?"
"Oh, come on. Have a little fun!" she chuckled, clearly did not faze even after knowing there were other people there.
Well, to be fair, every five-star esper--especially damage dealers--thought they were Gods, except when Bassena Vaski was present. But Bassena Vaski was being sealed in a dimensional space, and even if he managed to kill the other esper and got out, he would appear in another location.
So, basically, in her eyes, she was the goddess tonight.
"Fine," the guide rolled his eyes and waved his hand slightly. Immediately, she sensed more presence coming from three points; somewhere in the forest, somewhere from the helipad, and...
She turned his head; ten, twelve--no, fourteen figures were standing around the house. Inside, on the balcony, on top of the roof. Truthfully, it was quite surprising, even for her. The espers who came with her--those who belonged to that manchild Belthera--flinched as they knew they were outnumbered. She just scoffed, however.
"Pfft--you think bringing people will change anything?" her eyes gleamed as the air around her vibrated from the rousing of mana. "With these bunch of weaklings?"
The heavy pressure of mana spread around her, swirling the air into countless wind scythes that immediately lurched in every direction.
Of course, including the guide in front of him.
Before the wind scythe managed to crash into the barrier, however, it hit a massive metal shield and dispersed. A middle-aged esper stood in front of the guide, glaring viciously at her. "Are you alright, Young Master?"
"I’m fine," Zein said, sighing internally at the older man’s insistence on calling him ’young master’. But this was hardly a time to nitpick, so he let it go.
The rest of the scythes were accurately flying toward the other espers--the members of Iron Shield--which fortunately deflected the attack adequately. But they had to jump out of the house while doing it, causing them to clash with their enemy.
"O-ho? You even bring your nanny?" Ali raised her brow, didn’t seem to care that her attack was being deflected. She only did it to make these people move anyway.
"What’s wrong with that?" Zein replied nonchalantly. Technically, Senan probably would be his caretaker if nothing went wrong twenty-nine years ago, so calling him his nanny wasn’t so wrong.
"Yeah, what’s wrong with that?" the old man even repeated it with a smile, looking happy when Zein did not reject the notion that he was Zein’s ’nanny’.
The female five-star laughed out loud. "Oh, don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with that," she cackled, before smiling deeply while raising her hands. "It just means we gain another pawn to make you submit!"
As she said the last word, the air around her swirled wildly like a tornado. It grew wider and wider until it encompassed the section in front of the lake, battering the other espers as well as trapping them; even those who were meant to be her ally.
Zein looked at those espers, some of whom used to be part of Ishtera’s household. He didn’t mean to have them involved in this before, but he wasn’t able to trick Senan. It seemed like Arlo had told the old man that Zein had gotten sick the other day, and that information led to another.
It was annoying, but the female esper was right. Zein couldn’t bear seeing these people--his people, at any rate--get killed because of him.
Thankfully, the members of Iron Shield easily got ahold of themselves and got into formation--probably because they were family. Even though they were only two or three-star espers, they coordinated well and managed to shield themselves from the ferocious wind while countering the enemy with long-range attacks. At the very least, they managed to keep the other espers busy.
But Senan was only a four-star esper, and he was gradually getting shoved back as the female esper created several whips made of condensed wind and battered the metal shield.
"Pfft--you’re not seriously thinking you can protect your young master with only that shield, aren’t you?" she laughed mockingly. "If you resist so much, my attack might land on him, you know!"
’Might’ was an understatement. The wind whips had struck the barrier several times, and each time it seemed like it was about to crack, Senan had to stack another barrier on top of it--which was why he couldn’t activate any other defensive skill.
"Just so you know, I only have to take him alive, so it doesn’t matter even if he lost a few limbs!"
Senan gritted his teeth and shouted. "Cohen!"
"What, you think calling someone will help you?" she continued to sneer.
But he realized after a few seconds that no one was actually attacking her. As she tilted her head in confusion, she felt several presences from outside of her wind domain. With the sound of agonizing screams, the wall of wind was breached.
No, not breached. To be exact, the two scouts that were hiding in the forest, as well as two other Celestia’s espers that were not inside her domain, were being shoved inside the whirlwind. They were being used as a shield for the espers who came through the forest and the helipad to come through unscathed.
She was still confused, though. What was the use of these additional manpower? They were still two or three-star garbage. Did these people really think adding a few flies would be enough to take her? She might not be a Ranker, she might not have a name in the world, but she was still a five-star wind elementalist nurtured by one of the Old Houses.
"I suggest you stop your struggle, traitor."
