The operator and the guard turned around swiftly when they heard the door closing. Curiously, they watched a figure walking from the door toward them.
The tension in their limbs loosened slightly, however, when they saw the figure was wearing a military outfit. "Huh? Who are you? We don’t know that someone will be sent here again; do you have a message for us or something?"
"Yes," the man replied in a firm voice but relaxed demeanor, further loosening their vigilance.
When the man was close enough that they could see his face, the guard exclaimed. "Hey, aren’t you that Night Star guy from Mobius? Major General Han Gyeong’s son?"
Again, the man only replied briefly. "Yes."
The guard scoffed inwardly. Geez--like father like son; they acted like they needed to pay for every word spoken. Well, this guy was probably here under his old man’s order. He did hear that this sudden check-up was ordered because the Major General was on his way to do some inspection.
"Don’t drop your guard, Gram," the other man, the one who had been checking on the system, said tensely while raising his gun, slowly charging it with his mana. His other hand was hovering above the emergency button on the side of the archival device.
"Huh, why?" the guard asked confusedly, but he still unseathed his sword and raised it in front of him.
"The Night Star had been missing for the past month," the operator said. "And someone had been taking data from the system."
"Are you saying it’s him?" the guard, Gram, widened his eyes, hand gripping the sword tighter.
"Well, he is suspiciously here, isn’t he?" the operator gritted his teeth. "There’s no reason for Major General to send him first when he’s going to come anyway."
Han Joon stopped when he heard it. The old man was coming? For a second, the star in his eyes flickered, before the black turned to void again.
"What are you doing here, Night Star?"
"I’m here to give you a message," Han Joon smiled. "You better get out of this place before it’s too late; that’s the message."
"What the hell are you even--"
"Grim, get ready to fight--ugh!" the operator groaned as he felt his hand fail to move, hovering just an inch away from the emergency button that would inform the guard post outside the dungeon of an intruder, as well as call all the corrupted hounds here.
He had meant to push it, but his limbs were suddenly tied up in a wire.
"Fuck--what is this?!" Grim was faring no better, hands tied tightly with his sword.
"At least, initially, I meant to convey that," Han Joon resumed his walk while the wire in the other espers’ limbs got tighter. "But then again, the fact that you’re here means you know what this system is, and what they do," the void-like black eyes shifted toward the operator. "At least, you are."
"Agh!" the gun in the operator’s hand got yanked away and flew forward, right into the soldier’s hand. At the same time, the arm hovering above the emergency button was pulled together to his hips, tied by a wire that pressed painfully to his skin.
"Erin--urk!"
The sword clanked loudly to the ground as the guard instinctively grabbed his neck, clawing the wire tightly coiling around his neck.
"You," the black eyes shifted again, staring at the choking esper. "I don’t know how much you know, but..."
"A...ack--"
"You seem useless," Han Joon clenched his fist and the wire tightened so much the guard’s neck turned purple and then red in the next second.
"Grim--!"
Before the operator’s shout finished coming out of his mouth, the guard’s body had already slumped down, gurgling blood and choked breath. But Erin had no time to grieve--if he felt any--because the military’s silent killer was approaching him.
"Y-you--what are you doing?! Aren’t you Sir Han’s son?!"
"I am," Han Joon replied dryly. That’s why he has to be the one who does this. He turned his head toward the archive device. "You; show me how to send things from here to an outside account."
"You think you can get away with what you’ve done?" the operator barked. "Anything sent out will be recorded, including the address of the account you’ll send it to."
"I know that much," the dry tone sounded cold in the operator’s ears. The black eyes showed nothing but the determination of someone ready to face his end anytime soon.
Honestly, Erin couldn’t help but shudder in dread as speculations formed in his head. "You...you’re crazy..."
Han Joon turned his head; the deep smile that suddenly formed in that otherwise expressionless face was eerie. "That’s a given."
Again, Erin felt the hair on his nape stood up. In the next second, he was getting yanked by the painful wire that seemed to ready to slice his skin at any moment, sent to the front of the archival device.
"Since you have a gist of how crazy I am," Han Joon tilted his head, "Why don’t you start working."
"Fuck--you’re going to kill me anyway!"
