“Of course, Mr. Hughes. Enjoy yourself.” As Peter spoke, he clapped a heavy hand down on Madeline’s shoulder and leaned in, hissing threateningly, “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll make Mr. Hughes happy.”

Madeline bit down hard on her lip, refusing to let out a single cry of pain.

Seeing Madeline’s obvious resentment, Grace chimed in, “Darling, don’t blame your father and me for doing this. Sure, Mr. Hughes is older, but he’s rich and knows how to treat a woman right. You’ll live a good life with him.”

“Mom, I’m your daughter!” Madeline finally couldn’t hold it back any longer and let out a low cry.

Grace forced herself to look away. “Don’t blame me for this. You wouldn’t give us the money, and your brother’s situation can’t wait any longer. Just consider this your repayment for everything we’ve done raising you.”

With those heartless words, she turned and followed Peter out without so much as a backward glance.

From the doorway, Miguel’s eager voice drifted in. “Mr. Hughes, my sister’s pretty feisty. I’ve got something to calm her down. Want me to give her a dose?”

Madeline doubled over, retching from sheer disgust. However, Matthew waved dismissively. “No need for that. Drugging her takes all the fun out of it.”

Miguel didn’t say another word. With a sickening smirk, he said, “Enjoy yourself with Mr. Hughes, Maddie.” Then, he slipped out of the private room and even “thoughtfully” closed the door behind him.
