His voice was thick with desperation, but Amelia remained calm. She gave a

soft, almost gentle laugh.“Okay. I forgive you.”

The unexpected answer stunned him.“Really?” He was too relieved to

question the sincerity in her voice.

“Yes,” she said, a chilling calmness in her voice. “Isn’t that what you wanted to
