Chapter 4
“Because of you, my parents went to Kiana’s place to look for me. In the quarrel, Casey went missing!”
I clenched my hands with a pounding heart. Would the result be the same after all that I had done?
“Grace, Casey is like Kiana’s child. You’re pregnant now. Can’t you imagine how devastating it is for a mom to lose her baby?
“If Casey can’t be found, we should not keep our baby, or it could hurt Kiana’s feelings.”
Antonio’s cold voice wrung my heart.
I did lose a baby, but Antonio hadn’t known.
“I’ll go look for Casey.” I headed out.
Antonio sneered, “You should. After all, you caused it. Don’t pretend to be worried. I know your true colors.”
When I was looking for Casey outside Kiana’s place, its lights were on, and I could see Kiana and Antonio cuddling on the balcony.
It was chilly at night, and I was weak because of the surgery, so I felt dizzy soon. But I didn’t stop.
I didn’t want to owe Antonio anything, so I had to find Casey.
At dawn, I saw Casey shaking in a corner of the lawn and tied to a bush.
When I held it upstairs carefully, I caught Antonio wiping Kiana’s lips.
He paused when he saw me. Then, he rushed to me and took Casey away.
“Kiana, our Casey was found!”
Kiana took Casey over. When she noticed Antonio turn to me, she burst
into tears.
“Antonio, Casey seems unwell. It’s been out all night, cold and scared. Will it die? Why don’t we take it to the hospital for an examination?”
Watching my pale face, Antonio hesitated.
I leaned against the door. “Go. I’ll go home on my own.”
After Antonio and Kiana left, I blacked out.
When I opened my eyes again, I found I was in the hospital with Antonio beside my bed.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were feeling unwell? How are you feeling
now?”
He didn’t seem to know about my miscarriage, so I felt relieved.
“Casey is fine. I should’ve looked for it with you last night, but Kiana was standing on the balcony in a bad mood. I was afraid that she would do. something stupid, so I stayed with her.
“I’m sorry about all that.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Confusion flashed through Antonio’s eyes.
“Antonio, you’re as soft–hearted as when you were a kid. You helped me because you felt pitiful, right? If you had known that helping me would lead to marrying me, would you have helped me?”
Chapter 4
After some moments of silence, Antonio nodded vigorously.
“Don’t make wild guesses. I never regretted helping you. I bought your favorite soup. You need to eat something.”
When he just opened the food container, Kiana showed up and covered her stomach with a grimace.
“Antonio, I have a stomachache and want to eat something warm. Can I have the soup?”
