Faye felt that Anthony had understood it too late, unlike her, who had understood it many years ago. That was why she yearned to be with Alec so much. But now, she understood that she had no chance to stand by him, for he was too powerful and beyond her league.

"So, what do you want to do now? How can I help you?" Faye asked.

"I want you to go find Alec and ask him to let us off. I'll never bother him again," Anthony said. After these few days, he came to terms with reality and knew he couldn't match up to Alec.

"Do you think we still have a chance?" Faye asked, frowning.

"Yes, of course. You've been with him for so many years. He must have some feelings for you. As long as you speak up, he'll definitely agree," Anthony analyzed.

Unfortunately, Faye wasn't so optimistic. "Anthony, you just made me see things as they were. But why can't you see it now? If Alec had any other feelings for me, I wouldn't be here today," Faye said with a bitter smile.

Anthony's expression froze. Faye was right; Alec didn't like her at all. Even if she took the initiative to approach him, Alec wouldn't spare her a second glance.

He slumped weakly in his chair and looked at the pile of files before him. "So, we're doomed? We can only wait for our demise to be upon us?"

Faye bit her lip. She knew what her brother was thinking. They had come a long way from being orphans with nothing; if they had to go back to square one, it was even more unbearable than death itself.

After a moment of silence, she decided to give it a try. "I'll go find Alec, but you have to be prepared. The Wardleys may have to pay a lot."

"I know," Anthony said. He wasn't stupid. Even if Alec agreed to let them go, the Wardleys wouldn't be the same as before henceforth.

Alec looked at her and said calmly, "Since you know you're disturbing us, why don't you leave now?"

In the past, Alec had some fondness for Faye. After all, she'd been like a sister to him for so many years, but that was no longer the case. Alec felt that he was being merciful by not making a move against her personally. He'd only targeted her family so far.
