Jenny could tell that Gilbert was upset. She quickly added, "Gilbert, I know you're doing this in Zack's best interest. But he's an adult now. We can't make decisions for him."

He merely waved his hand. "That's enough. You should leave." Then, he trudged ahead and disappeared from her sight. Perhaps, it was time to have a life of his own instead of focusing all his attention on Jenny and Zack. As the eldest, he always acted like a father, worrying they'd date partners who were unsuitable for them.

She was woeful at the sight of Gilbert leaving. "Was I too harsh to him just now?"

Alec gave her a back hug and said affirmatively, "No. You were right. It's Gilbert who needs to think about it. He puts himself in the role of a father by disciplining you. But in truth, he's not that much older than both of you, and he never had the experience of being a father. He doesn't have more life experience compared to you. You're not at fault. He's the one who has confused his role."

Despite that, Jenny didn't feel better at all and wallowed in a low mood. Seeing that, Alec hurriedly changed the topic. "Jenny, don't you have any pity for me? I haven't had dinner, and I'm starving." His stomach cooperatively rumbled at the same time.

It struck her that they had not had dinner before arriving at the hospital. In fact, they haven't ate any food since alighting the plane.

"Sorry for making you starve with me." She looked sheepish. "Let's go and have a nice meal. I'll buy you dinner."

"Sure. I'll eat you out of house and home, my wife-to-be!" He chuckled and held her hand as they left the hospital.

Meanwhile, things weren't as harmonious between Zack and Janet in his room.

She wiped the corner of her eyes to stop her tears from falling. "I think you're foolish. Is it even worth it to risk yourself to save me?"

"Of course it is," he said without hesitation.

He was willing to sacrifice himself for her safety, but she thought he was a fool. How could he say that it was worth it? She felt that she wasn't worth his sacrifice. At that thought, she cried even louder.

Zack grew more nervous. "Janet, stop crying! Did someone bully you? Tell me, and I'll teach them a lesson."
