Nonetheless, nothing could be done because Mrs. Warren could not bear another child due to her poor health. Besides, she was the only person who President Warren loved, so the Warren family was naturally handed down to Miss Warren.

Miss Warren was also said to be a diligent person because she was able to take charge when she was 18 years old. She had represented her dad by going overseas to discuss a collaboration, where she secured ten million orders at once. The ancestors of the Warren family would be at ease knowing that their family was handed down to her.

During fall that year, Jared’s old butler had brought a child into his study. The butler said to Jared, who was sitting on a cane chair, “Mr. Crawford, someone would like to meet you.”

Jared looked up while reading halfway. “Who?”

The child approached him and handed him a box. “I’m Egret, and Mom said that you’ll know what it means when you see this.”

Jared frowned as he accepted the box. When he opened it, he found an exquisite wooden sculpture inside.

He was extremely familiar with the sculpture’s craft because he had been hugging a pair of wooden figures for days and nights back then. How could he not recognize the craftsperson behind it?

Jared’s eyes reddened as he looked up at the teen in front of him. “Egret, Egret…”

He vaguely saw himself and Gwen on the child’s face, and he quickly waved at the boy as though he understood something. “Come here and let me take a closer look at you.”

When Egret went closer to Jared, Jared scanned his face carefully with his eyes, and he nodded with tears in his eyes. “He resembles us, he really resembles us.”

‘His eyes are like mine while his nose and mouth are like Gwen’s. He’s the child of Gwen and I.’

Jared asked with trembling lips, “Did your mom say anything else?”

Egret retrieved a letter from his pocket. “Mom wrote this letter for you.”

Jared accepted the letter like he valued it very much. When he opened it to read, he felt like every stroke of the words were written on his heart instead.
