Sieara's bloodshot eyes became dull and her gaze dropped to the floor.

"Come on, I know you hate me, but I had my own difficulties. I hope you can understand."

Leah's lips pursed in irony. Understand?

Sorry, she wasn't able to do that.

She didn't understand it then and she won't ever understand it in the future.

Leah did not want to waste her breath any longer. She said coldly, "Now that you've said your piece, can you leave now?"

"Leah, I know you hate me now but I know how this works. I thought I would be together with your father forever. Look, how did it end?"

Her mother continued, "I know that you're very much in love with your boyfriend now and you won't listen to anything I say. Even then, I still have to say that he might not be the right one for you.

Sieara didn't stop there, she said, "Don't you see? You're penniless but you're hoping to marry into the rich and powerful Jones family. Do you think you'll have a place there?"

Leah scoffed at Sieara's words and did not reply. She didn't feel like talking to Sieara at all.

Sieara thought she'd convinced her daughter when Leah did not reply. Hence, she kept going.

"The wealthier a person is, the more demanding he will be. There will also be a lot of restrictions on you. I hope you can think this through so you don't end up like me. One mistake could cost you your entire life."

Leah didn't expect her mother to keep nagging when she didn't reply. She looked at Sieara coldly. "Do you think you're right just because I didn't reply?"

Sieara was shocked and she said, "Well, some of it must have touched you."

Leah sneered. "You really think too highly of yourself."

Sieara froze.

"You're a divorcee, yet you still married into the Qualls family. Although they're not as powerful as the Jones family, don't you think it's a miracle that they accepted a divorcee into their home?"

Sieara did not know what to say.

"If a divorcee like you could be so lucky, then why not me? Furthermore, the man I love isn't so shallow." Leah had a determined gaze in her eyes when she thought of Ernest. "Save your arrogance and take your kid out of Northern City. I never want to see you again."

"Leah, if you don't listen to me, you will suffer in the future. I didn't listen to your grandmother's words, so I ended up divorced. I admit that what you said makes sense," Sieara continued trying to persuade Leah, "But these things still have to be considered."

"Can you stay away from me?" Leah's tone was frosty.

Leah had become rather unhappy with what had happened.

She'd cut ties with her mother before and she lived quite happily without her.

Now, she was worried her mother would mess everything up.

Sieara felt upset at being insulted and she fell silent for a moment before she said, "Why did we become like this, Leah?"

Leah's lips twitched as her gaze grew colder. She answered sarcastically, "Yeah, I wonder too."

Sieara looked even more upset after being insulted once again.

Just then, a tall man disembarked from a parked car and walked towards them. The dashing man was wearing sunglasses and a dark suit.

Leah glanced at the person.

She sneered coldly at him.

Norval smiled and said, "Auntie, Leah, it's cold outside. Since you guys don't want to go upstairs to talk, why don't you get into the car? At least it's warm."

When Sieara saw Norval coming, she immediately looked at him with an apologetic look in her eyes.

Leah glanced at them and pressed her lips together in displeasure before saying, "I have nothing to say to you. Goodbye."

Leah turned to leave after she finished speaking.

Norval immediately stopped Leah when she was about to walk away. "Are you going to leave as soon as you see me?"

He gave Leah a long, meaningful look.

Leah just smiled faintly and said, "No, I wanted to leave even if you didn't come. I have nothing to say to you two."

"Leah, we don't have to be so cold to each other, do we?" Norval shouted. "Even though we don't like each other, we're still siblings."

"Sorry, I don't think I deserve to be your sibling," Leah smirked.

"Don't treat us like we're poison," Norval's said in a gentle and doting voice as if he were speaking to his little sister.

Sieara looked at them and sighed internally. She couldn't help but say, "Come on, look at how nice Norval is to you. He really likes you and he is really gentle. Is that boy you're dating as gentle as he is?"

Leah glanced at her mother. She couldn't stop herself from saying, "Mrs. Qualls, you haven't learned anything in all your years in the Qualls family except for how to gossip? Have you seen my boyfriend? How would you know how gentle he is to me?"

Sieara paled at the direct words.

Norval said, "Auntie, please wait for me in the car. I'll speak to Leah for a while before we head home."

Sieara nodded obediently and said, "All right, Norval. Leah doesn't know what's good for her, so don't take it to heart."

Leah gave in to the impulse to roll her eyes.

Sieara and got into the luxurious car Norval came in.

Only Leah and Norval were left at the entrance of the building.

Leah stared coldly at Norval and remained silent.

She was holding back but her patience was hanging by a thread.

The volcano was about to erupt.

Norval smiled and said, "Don't look at me with such hostile eyes. To be honest, I regret it very much. I should have brought you to the Qualls family home earlier. If so, you wouldn't have met

Ernest."

Leah sneered. "Fate isn't something that you can control."

"That's true." Norval smiled and said, "I'm just telling you that I'll be here whenever you need me. As your brother, of course."

"There's no need for that." Leah refused him outright.

Norval was silent for a moment before asking, "Why are you still holding a grudge?"

"I'm not, actually. I just think it's a waste of time and energy for us to interact." Leah raised her chin proudly. "We are strangers who should keep going our separate ways."
