Ernest was rather shocked when he heard that, but one particular person popped up in his mind.

Norval.

He didn't know if he'd guessed wrong.

However, the first person that came to his mind was indeed Norval.

However, it was just a hunch, so he decided not to say anything.

"Uncle, can't you tell who it is?" Ernest felt that it was better to understand what the other party's cards were.

"Of course, I've looked into it already." Jensen chuckled. "I'm just curious, does Leah have any powerful relatives?"

Ernest was astonished when he heard the question. He exchanged glances with Leah.

He pondered for a moment before he said, "If there is, then it must be the Qualls family. You can look into Norval Qualls."

In the end, Ernest still mentioned Norval.

"The Qualls family?" Jensen was perplexed by this

revelation.

Keeping his gaze on Leah, Ernest told Jensen the truth. "Leah's mother married into the Qualls family and Norval is her stepson."

"Oh, really?" Jensen was shocked at that new piece of information. "Got it. You go do your thing, all right?"

He hung up the phone.

Ernest gave Leah a cautious look.

Leah found it odd that Ernest had suddenly mentioned her, so she asked, "Why did you mention Norval and my mother?"

"Someone wants Hogan to go to jail." Ernest said, "They're really pressing for it."

Leah was surprised as she didn't expect that at all. "Are you suspecting that Norval is behind this?"

"The only person I can think of is him," Ernest told Leah his thoughts honestly. A hint of amusement flashed in his eyes. "If he wants Hogan to go to jail, I think that's a very good idea."

"You want to work together with him?" Leah asked in surprise.

"Of course not." Ernest shook his head. "I'm not going to cooperate with him on this. We should just do our own thing, keep out of each other's way."

Leah pursed her lips. Hogan was in real deep sh*t this time.

"What do you think?" Ernest asked Leah for her opinion after noticing that she'd gone silent. "What are you thinking about? Do you want Hogan to go to jail?"

"Well, he should go to jail based solely on what he did to my sister." Leah's tone was non-committal. "But I think that going to jail would ruin his life."

Ernest replied, "He deserves it. There's no need to be nice to this kind of person, Leah."

"I get where you're coming from." Leah nodded. "We already have a case against him and the school's been informed of what he did. My sister and I have gravely offended the Wells family, so there's no further need to dwell on anything. Let's just go with the flow."

"Yep!" Ernest chuckled. "Let's eat!"

The two of them continued chatting as they ate.

However, Leah was still a little puzzled. "Why do you think Norval wants to put Hogan in jail? How would he know about what happened?"

"I just have a hunch. The only person I can think of is Norval. If he knows you live in the dorms and when you went on a vacation, I think Mr. Qualls has some influence around here."

Ernest looked at Leah and ventured, "Furthermore, my uncle asked if you have any powerful relatives. For me, all clues point to them, so I told him about Norval and your mom."

Leah finally understood what was going on and nodded. "I'm fine with you talking about my mother. It's all fact anyway. I'm just curious about what Norval is up to."

Ernest replied, "Well, he's standing up for you. Maybe he does really like you and he can't bear to see anyone hurt you."

Leah fell silent.

"I feel the same way. If it were up to me, I want Hogan to go to prison for the rest of his life."

Leah's jaw dropped in shock at Ernest's words. She hadn't expected him to say that at all.

Ernest laughed self-deprecatingly and asked, "Are you shocked?"

Leah nodded. "You're usually such a warm person. I never expected you to be able to be so ruthless."

Ernest smiled. There was nary a hint of anger on his face. He looked harmless, so why did he turn out to be so cruel?

Leah was astonished to discover this side of him. Her mouth stayed open as she increasingly became nervous.

Ernest smiled again. There was a smile on his face, but the words he said were chilling. "If he hurts you again, I won't hesitate to kill him."

Leah was taken aback as she shook her head. "No, Ernest. I don't want you to dirty your hands. Even though he is a despicable man, you don't have to do that for me."

"It's fine. People say women look better when they're skinnier. Don't guys like skinny girls?" Leah pouted.

"I like it when you're healthy, not when you're starving yourself to be skinny." Ernest glanced at Leah seriously and said in a serious tone, "Don't diet just to be skinny. I don't care whether you're fat or thin, I'm not that shallow. If I were, I don't deserve you. If you want to lose weight, we can just exercise more to keep ourselves healthy."

Ernest's words were very powerful and they struck a nerve within Leah.

Warmth collected in her eyes and she felt like crying again.

She was deeply moved.

She immediately lowered her head and took a deep breath, not wanting to look so fragile.

Nevertheless, Ernest's words had touched her soul.

Leah didn't say anything for a while.

It was quiet for a long time, neither of them spoke.

Ernest observed Leah's teary eyes and his gaze became thoughtful.

A moment passed before Leah raised her head and sniffled. She murmured, "I won't go on a diet. I love food way too much for that."

Ernest was stunned, the smile on his lips gradually widened.

Leah said, "Well, you've lost weight too."

The both of them had lost more than ten pounds each when they broke up. Now that they'd gotten back together, they spent most nights awake in a haze of pleasure. Obviously, they did not eat or rest well, so they had not gained any weight.

Ernest was taken aback, he said, "Let's not be like that anymore, okay?"

Leah raised her head and nodded firmly.

"No matter what, always remember to trust me, okay?" said Ernest.

Leah nodded again. "Okay."

"That's good." Ernest smiled, stretched out his hand, and swiped at her nose from across the table.

Leah wrinkled her nose and laughed.

They looked at each other and smiled sweetly.
