"Lower your voice," Leah voiced out and stopped her immediately. She was taken aback by Maria suddenly raising her volume. "You're so loud. What if Celeste heard us? It'd be so embarrassing."
"Sorry, sorry," Maria immediately apologized. "I was just too excited to hear that you've moved on. How did you even manage to do that?"
"I know for a fact that she isn't involved in this," Leah lowered her volume. "How can I blame someone who's not related to this at all? Ernest had a crush on her and it was not the other way round. We should still keep our facts in check."
"That may be the case, but I'm not sure if I can be like you." Maria knew very well the despair they had gone through.
"It's not that easy. However, it's all in the past already," Leah explained, "Even I have to admit that Celeste is really beautiful, I can't blame the guys for not being able to take their eyes off her. If I was a man, I'm sure I'd be falling for Celeste too. I'm just trying to put myself in his shoes, and that's how I convinced myself to move on."
Celeste was still frozen in the washroom.
Her mind was a mess. She was a little shocked and embarrassed too.
Celeste didn't expect Leah to know that Ernest had a crush on her, and that she was obviously also the reason they broke up.
No wonder Leah and Maria looked that awkward after she asked that question earlier.
Celeste was frustrated at herself for being so careless and not noticing it.
She heard what Leah had to say about her at the same time. She was both surprised and moved upon hearing that.
She took a deep breath and stood by the door, not in a hurry to walk out.
Her mind was still in a mess. She was still in astonishment and she still felt touched.
Liam and Ernest both had a crush on her, and she became great friends with Maria and Leah.
Celeste was truly moved that the ladies didn't mind it.
She felt really lucky that they were so tolerant towards her.
She told herself to act like she didn't hear any of their conversation. Otherwise, she'd only put all of them in an awkward spot.
Celeste took another couple of deep breaths while adjusting her emotions.
She deliberately made some noises while opening the door so that they could hear her.
She walked out of the washroom.
Maria and Leah immediately turned to look at her. They both paused for a while, then smiled.
Celeste looked at them and smiled too.
Celeste sat down on the bed and for the first time, she felt that she was ready to take the initiative to share more about herself with them. "Do you want to know what happened with me and Gary at Boston?"
"Sure," Leah answered quickly.
Maria added, "I especially want to know what happened to the woman who hurt you."
"Are you talking about Janice?" Celeste asked.
"Yes, that's it." Maria pouted. "I'm angry whenever I get reminded of how rude and blatant she was towards you."
They exchanged a look and smiled.
After overhearing their conversation, Celeste could tell that there was a hidden meaning to Leah's words.
She was glad to know that Leah had let go of it.
"To be honest, if Janice didn't do all of that and try to challenge you, she might be able to not get herself involved in this. Yet, she was corrupted by her own evil intention. She's at fault here," Leah said.
"That's right." Maria also nodded. "She was so despicable and even went to Gary's apartment and used Lowell to get closer to Gary when Celeste was in Boston. I hate it the most when a woman uses a man who loves her just to get closer to another man. She's too scheming. She's not a kind person."
Celeste sighed. "Although she's scheming and it's indeed not a great thing to do, I still think it's because she loves Gary too much. Otherwise, why would she end up like this?"
"Anyway, is Gary treating you well after that?" Maria was very concerned about Celeste and Gary's relationship then.
"Well, he has been considerate and has been taking great care of me after my miscarriage. He's changed a lot from the way he speaks to me, as well as a lot of things in our daily lives," Celeste said in a tender voice unhurriedly, "I know he has a lot of flaws, like how he can get chauvinistic at times, but I know these are things that would require time and effort to change. As he's not crossing the line now, I should give him more time."
Leah suddenly had a realization.
It turned out that Celeste was indeed a wise woman. She knew how to tolerate Gary.
Tolerating each other was a necessity in maintaining a relationship.
Maria was startled for a while before sighing. "From what you say, it does seem like Gary has changed a lot, and it's rare for him to be able to do so for you. I can tell that he loves you genuinely.
Celeste, you should know that you and Grace are probably the only ones who are able to change him."
