A surge of bitterness filled Celeste's heart when she saw Gary stuttering. But she held back her emotions, not wanting to seem overly jealous.

"You don't have to make allowances for me. All I want to know is how it happened and perhaps an explanation from your side," She took a deep breath. Finally, she was relieved that she said what she wanted to say.

Celeste had thought long and hard just a while ago. She wanted to run away from all this but realized it was going to do her no good. Hiding and running away was not the solution to the problem at hand.

After sorting out her emotions in the bathroom, she was much calmer now.

Hence, Celeste decided to talk to him about it.

Otherwise, this matter would keep occupying her mind and she would never feel at ease.

Rather than being kept in the dark, she would like to know the full story to make a clear judgment.

Currently, Celeste had yet to hear Gary's explanation, so what she knew and what she heard was only one side of the picture.

If she made a decision based on that alone, it would be unfair to him.

Celeste was still in her right mind.

She did not want to end their relationship on impulse. She wanted to face it calmly instead.

Upon hearing her question, Gary was beyond shocked.

He was conflicted as he looked at her. Somehow, he was embarrassed and hesitant because he was the one at fault here.

Gary bit his lips before saying, "I was in a bad mood when we broke up because you'd been ignoring me. I felt like a walking zombie every day. That's why I went to the bar one day to drink my sorrows away. But somehow, Janice brought me to a hotel. I didn't know how it all happened, and I was so shocked when I woke up."

"Janice told me we had s*x, but I have no recollection of it at all. That's all. I'm not lying. Come to think of it, I don't even feel that I slept with her at all."

"I know it's hard for you to believe me, or you would even say I am a coward for saying such things."

"But I really have no idea what happened between us."

"Are you saying that although you'd been so drunk that you have no idea whether you slept with Janice or not, she became pregnant?" Celeste was still calm when she asked so, but not on the inside.

She could feel her heart aching.

She was very, very jealous, and she didn't know how to face Gary now.

She felt a great wrench of sadness.

Hearing it from Gary himself made her feel so sad.

"Yes," Gary nodded solemnly, and his expression was extremely awkward.

After all, he felt guilty for hurting her.

"Tell me the details then," Celeste's voice was barely above a whisper. However, she looked firm as she said, "I want to know everything."

"It's my fault," It was rare for Gary to admit his mistakes, "It's my fault for not being sharp enough to know that she was up to something. I should have put my guard up."

Celeste heaved a long sigh as her eyes drooped. Then, she sat down by the bed, avoiding his gaze as she told him, "When we were in Scotland, I've already told you that Janice had approached me and told me that she hasn't given up on you. In fact, she even told me that she would be a more suitable partner for you. I guess she is, in fact, better than me for you."

"Nonsense! I know best who is suitable for me. I don't need her telling me. She's no god. We're the ones who control our own fate. No one can decide it for us," Gary was quick to clarify, "Don't listen to what she told you, and don't let her control what you think. She just wants to break us apart. We can't be fooled by her. You have always been a rational person. Think about what I said."

"I didn't fall for it. Despite the two calls I had with her, I never left you."

"The only thing I am afraid of is making an impulsive decision and regretting it for the rest of my life."

"So even if I know you got Janice pregnant, I still chose to stay with you."

"You must know too. If you had been the one who took the initiative, I would have forbidden you from touching me again," Celeste commented lightly, "But the problem is you didn't, and we were not together during that time. So what right do I have to ask you to be loyal to me?"

Celeste was aware that it was essential for her to maintain her cool at all times.

She knew Gary didn't want this to happen either.

But it did.

"No, it's not like that," Gary shook his head and said, "You're the only woman who has all the right to dictate my life. It's all my fault. I promised that you would be my one and only, but I was the one who broke our promise. I feel bad for everything that has happened."

"I know I can't blame you, but I am still very bothered by it," Celeste expressed her inner thoughts calmly.
