Sylvia went to the bathroom. She opened the tap and washed her face. Only after that did she feel her face cooling down.
However, when she saw herself in the mirror, she froze.
She was even more embarrassed for she looked completely ravaged.
Her eyes were unfocused, and her mouth was stained with red lipstick-like marks. Her lips were pinkish and tender, and she looked quite feverish.
Sylvia lowered her head in annoyance. She was a bundle of joy, embarrassment and slight awkwardness.
Just then, her phone on the sink started vibrating.
She immediately picked it up and had a look. It was from her mother. All of a sudden, she felt even weaker.
Sylvia took a deep breath and decided to answer the phone.
"Hello."
The moment she spoke, she could feel her voice trembling. Sylvia wondered if Grace could tell that she felt guilty. Would she suspect her of doing anything?
"Hey mom."
"Sylvia, why aren't you back yet?"
"Mom," Sylvia stammered before she hurriedly said, "I will be back a little late today, is that alright?"
Upon hearing her daughter’s careful tone, Grace knew that the girl must be fine.
It was just that this was the first time she'd sent food to Kendrix at such an early hour. The sun had not even risen yet, and so Grace had grown alert.
However, after making this call now, Grace felt a little relieved.
"You're going to be back later?" Grace chuckled
"Mom, school is about to start soon," Sylvia's voice was a lot softer. It would be impossible for her to meet Kendrix after school started.
Of course, even meeting him right now was very risky.
Sylvia knew that her mother was worried about her, but it was difficult for her to control her heart. She just wanted to stay with Kendrix for a little while longer.
She did not know if her mother would understand her words or not.
"That's right. It's precisely because the semester is about to start that I'm asking you to come home quickly and prepare," Grace pretended not to understand her daughter's words.
"Mom, I am only going to be out today. I won't go out anymore after tomorrow, I will stay home until school starts," Sylvia tried to persuade her mother after giving it some thought.
However, she sounded a little determined.
Grace smiled.
She secretly sighed. It seemed that she could not control her daughter anymore.
Sylvia had fallen in love, and now, there was no going back..
"Do you really need to go out for such a long time?" Grace spoke once more, dragging her voice. It seemed like she wanted to say something but stopped on second thought.
Sylvia was very smart. Naturally, she could detect her mother's worry from what Grace had said.
Therefore, Sylvia decided to just come clean, "Mom, there is only the two of us, Mr. Trevino and I."
"Oh!" Grace did not expect her daughter to be so honest with her.
This level of frankness made it difficult for her to respond.
Sylvia's heart thumped. His mother's sigh seemed a little reluctant.
However, she did not say anything either. It was obvious that she was determined to be with Kendrix that day.
If her mother did not agree to that, she would simply turn off her phone and ignore everyone else.
Sylvia was filled with worry and uncertainty. She gripped the phone tighter unconsciously.
Just then, Kendrix was at the door. There was a mixture of confusion and worry on his charming face.
Sylvia understood immediately upon noticing him. He must have overeard her phone call.
She immediately explained, "My mom called me."
When he saw her delicate face, a touch of tenderness flashed across Kendrix's eyes. He took a step forward and suggested, "Let's eat. I will take you home after we finish eating."
"Are you going to send me back?" Sylvia looked up at him while she was in his embrace, "But my mom has already agreed for me to be with you for the entire day. She said that she will only send a driver to pick me up at night."
"Even so, this is just your mother's generosity. I can't take advantage of that," Kendrix lowered his head to look at her, "Listen to me, you should go back earlier."
Even though there were unwillingness and reluctance in her heart, Sylvia could still notice a sort of emotion in Kendrix's calm eyes.
This was a feeling that made her feel at ease.
She pouted and begged softly, "Can I stay here until 3 o'clock then? I really want to stay with you for a little longer."
Kendrix looked at her imploring little face, feeling even more reluctant to part with her.
He hugged her tightly in his arms.
Yet, he eventually sighed, "Be a good girl. I will send you back after we finish eating."
"I have already gotten my mom's permission. Are you still insisting on sending me back?" Sylvia was really reluctant to part with him and protested, "You are not romantic at all."
"It is because your mother is too generous that I can't be too impudent," Kendrix reached out and held her chin while chiming softly, "Sending you back earlier is what I should do."
"I don't understand," Sylvia shook head in dejection.
"You won't understand it now, but you will when you grow up," Kendrix smiled and said, "Listen to me, okay? After school starts, I promise that I will keep showing up in front of you."
"Is that so?" Her eyes lit up immediately after she heard that.
"Of course. Why would I lie to you?"
