Upon hearing Simon's request, Grace let out a chuckle.
She found it ridiculous that he actually requested to talk alone with her.
"I have something to tell you." Simon had a bad feeling when looking at Grace's cold response.
"What is it?" Her gaze directed toward him was as sharp as a knife.
"Can you step out for a while?” Simon looked at her. She was wearing pajamas and her long hair draped on her shoulders. She looked neat and comfy.
She still looked like a homegirl, just like during her younger days.
"I'm afraid not," Grace replied.
"I can wait for you to get changed." Simon tried to negotiate.
"There's no need," Grace said again. "We have nothing to talk about."
"Fine!" he shouted. He said with sorrow, "I'm going to divorce Marry."
Grace was astounded.
Alice happened to come out after retrieving the broom. When she heard it, she threw a glance at Grace, who was frozen to the spot, and then looked at Simon's calm face. "What are you up to? There's no need for you to report to us about your divorce.
What does it have to do with us?" she asked.
Looking slightly abashed, Simon said in all sincerity, "I know you hate me, Alice. I despise myself too."
Alice frowned and couldn't bear to see the dispirited look on Simon's face. She said bluntly, "Why are you showing your glum face to us? To earn our pity? No way! People like you don't deserve any sympathy."
"You're right. I don't deserve it." Simon gave a bitter smile and said, "I've always thought that it was all my fault. It was a mistake at the beginning and I wanted to take responsibility. As a result, the damage was even worse."
"Please leave," Alice said impatiently. "You don't have to tell us anything. Even if you divorce Marry, Grace won't get back with you."
Simon looked at Grace with hope in his eyes.
"Alice is right." Grace said after Alice, "Regardless of what happened between you and Marry, it has nothing to do with me anymore. You don't have to tell me."
"Okay then." Looking at her, the glimmer of hope in his eyes was all gone. He felt awful. "I've felt like the walking dead all these years."
"Is that so?" Alice chimed in. "Then you might as well die."
She couldn't stand him wallowing in self-pity. Now that he knew Marry was up to no good, he wanted to get Grace back.
Being rendered speechless by Alice, Simon knew that he was not welcomed.
Deep inside his heart, he still hoped that Grace would give him a chance.
But Grace obviously refused to budge.
He said, "Fine! Do you want me to die so badly?"
Grace found it ludicrous and chuckled.
"Yes," she nodded without a thought.''Since you're already the walking dead. It's better for you to die, isn't it? I think Alice is right."
Simon staggered and almost lost his balance.
But he still refused to leave. Standing at the door, he stared straight at Grace. He couldn't fathom that she would be so cruel to him.
She used to be so kind and lovely.
It was so unbelievable that he couldn't come to terms with it.
Alice immediately lowered her head and said, "You should go in and have some rest. I'll get rid of these red beans. It's too dangerous for the neighbors. You mustn't tire yourself out."
Grace understood that Alice was trying to stir away from the subject. That incident was still haunting her.
She looked at Alice with a deep gaze and said, "I hope you can be happy, Alice. Don't run away from the miseries of life and face it bravely. Luck will be by your side."
Alice nodded, her gaze still fixing on the ground.
Grace then walked back into the house.
She didn't say further, knowing that Alice needed time.
As soon as she was gone, Alice's phone rang.
She glanced at the screen. It was Jensen.
Alice frowned and picked it up, "Hello, Officer Charm. What's up?"
"You might need to come meet me, Alice. Your money has been returned."
"What money?" For a moment, Alice couldn't catch what he said.
"The medical fees. One- hundred- fifty thousand dollars paid by your sister," Jensen answered.
"It's been refunded?" Alice asked incredulously.
"Yes, there's some procedures to be done, and then you can get the money."
"Oh, okay," Alice said. "Give me a moment. I'll be there soon."
Jensen said, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
