The surgeon- in- charge heard the conversation between the two people, and he saw Heinz's face turning extremely gloomy after being put in a difficult position.

"I think that his words make sense. Why don't you give it a try?" the surgeon suggested.

Of course, Heinz Jones was reluctant to agree. He hesitated for a while and looked a little distressed.

It wasn't because he didn't want to help. He just didn't want to recall the memories of the past.

After all, what had happened in the past was unpleasant.

However, when he thought of Mr. Lawson, who was lying inside with his life at stake, he nodded and acquiesced after hesitating for a while.

"Prepare an isolation gown," the surgeon said on the phone. He called the nurse station that instant and instructed them accordingly.

After Heinz was fully equipped with protective gear, he put on the isolation cap and followed them into the intensive care unit.

Nathan Lawson, who was 60 years old, was lying on the hospital bed. His face was very pale, and he looked very old.

Lying on the hospital bed, his head was wrapped in gauze and tubes were inserted all over his whole body.

Heinz closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again.

How he wished everything that had happened was just a dream. He wished that Mr. Lawson was well and Jodie Lawson was still alive.

If that had been the case...

Beep beep-

The respiratory monitor made a sound.

Heinz frowned and he looked at the nurse instinctively.

The nurse immediately said, "This is a normal sound from the respiratory monitor. If it is an alarm, the sound will last longer."

Heinz nodded and felt slightly relieved.

Fortunately, it was not the sound of an alarm.

He turned his head and looked outside the room.

Jensen Charm was standing outside the intensive care unit. When he saw Heinz looking at him, he immediately raised his fist as a gesture of encouragement to him.

Heinz looked away without any expression.

He took a deep breath and said to Mr. Lawson, "Dad, it's Heinz."

Mr. Lawson did not respond at all.

"Do you still remember the first time Jodie and I bickered with each other when we were young?"

"At that time, she was sniveling, then I bullied her by painting cat's whiskers on her face. After that, she cried even louder."

"She was afraid that she would become ugly."

"I burst out laughing and didn't show her any sympathy at all. I even teased her for being a crybaby."

"You happened to walk past us when you came back from work. Even though you saw that Jodie was crying, you didn't blame me. You just told Jodie that a boy would only bully the girl that he liked."

"Back then, I was so frightened."

"But I couldn't deny it. I really liked Jodie very much."

"She was very cute and she had a good personality. Apart from being a crybaby, she was good at everything else."

Heinz kept talking in a low voice, but there was no response at all from the person on the hospital bed.

Heinz closed his eyes and said, "I'm very sorry. We had quarreled so badly. If only I had persevered a bit more, she might not have gone abroad. I'm responsible for that."

He paused for a moment. It was not possible to have a second chance in life.

If it was possible to start over again, he would never wish for that to happen.

"Dad, I know that you don't blame me because you are a kind person. But I still feel sorry for everything that had happened," Heinz said solemnly, "I'm sorry I cost you your dearest daughter."

At that moment, the nurse suddenly shouted excitedly, "It's working. There's a reaction."

Heinz was also shocked and he looked at Mr.

Lawson subconsciously.

"There's a reaction," the nurse pointed at the respiratory monitor and shouted excitedly, "The data of the heart rate and blood pressure are changing."

Heinz was astonished.

The nurse said again, "Mr. Jones, what you have said is working for Mr. Lawson. He reacted after hearing your words."

His voice sounded a little uncertain when he asked, "Dad, are you really awake?"

Mr. Lawson looked at him and blinked his eyes. Gratitude could be seen on his old face. Then, he opened his mouth and said, "Heinz."

"Dad, I'm here," Heinz said softly, "You need to get well soon. Mom needs you!"

Then, Mr. Lawson looked around, trying to search for his wife.

But she wasn't there.

His gaze seemed to reflect a little disappointment and worry. Suddenly, he looked at Heinz in horror and asked, "Your mother..?"

"Mom is in the ward!" Heinz didn't want to lie to Mr. Lawson so he said, "Mom has high blood pressure. When she knew that you were ill, her blood pressure increased. Aunt Stone is with her now while I'm here to see you."

"Really?"

"Yes," Heinz replied.

Nathan stared at Heinz for a while before he was convinced that Heinz did not lie to him. Only then, he was relieved.

He nodded and said, "I'm much better now, but I feel very tired."

"You just had a major operation. Your body is still recovering. It is inevitable that you would feel tired," Heinz comforted him, "But it's okay. You will be fine after a while."

"Sorry for making you worry," Nathan apologized.

"It's alright," Heinz said, while shaking his head. He looked at Mr. Lawson, and said, "Be strong."

"I know," Nathan sighed and looked at the ceiling. Then, he said, "I heard what you said earlier."

"Dad!" Heinz opened his mouth.

"Heinz, I don't blame you," Nathan smiled bitterly and said, "It's Jodie. She had brought this upon herself. If she hadn't had such a strong personality and insisted on going abroad, both of you wouldn't have bickered so hard." "I'm sorry," Heinz apologized in a deep voice, "I'm responsible too."

"Ah!" Nathan sighed again and said, "I had a dream just now. I dreamed that Jodie was still alive."

Heinz frowned.

"Heinz, I really wish that Jodie is still alive. Then, both of you could be together."

Heinz remained silent and pursed his lips.
