A weeping sound came from the study room which made the people standing at the door frown.

"Did you hear Master Lowe cry?" One of them asked another.

"Yes." The other nodded and replied, "He's talking about something but I can't hear clearly. He's really crying."

"Could it be because of the ashes' owner?"

"Who knows? Master Lowe has a strange temper. He hasn't been remarried again for all these years. I think it's most probably because of the ashes' owner."

"Do you think he didn't remarry for 50 years for the sake of this woman?"

"How am I supposed to know?"

"If it were you, would you be able to endure such loneliness?"

"I'm sure I wouldn't be able to take it longer. As a man, I definitely can't endure my sexual desire without a partner."

"But Master Lowe has endured it."

The two people were whispering at the door, chuckling and sighing with emotion at the same time.

When Charles went upstairs, he saw Master Lowe's caretakers muttering to each other. He was already in a bad mood, so he immediately bellowed sullenly, "What are you whispering about?"

"Oh, Mr. Lowe." The two of them immediately became serious and straightened their postures respectfully.

Charles frowned and questioned again, "What on earth were you two talking about?"

"M-Master Lowe is crying!" One of them pointed to the door and said, "I don't know what's going on. He has been crying ever since he retrieved the ashes urn."

"Crying?" Charles was very surprised. "Why is he crying?"

"We don't know, Mr. Lowe."

Charles frowned and scolded them, "Get downstairs quickly. Without my orders, you're not allowed to come up. Prepare some water and food for Master Lowe."

"Yes, Sir!"

"Inform Eva and Donald to come over. I have something important to discuss with them," Charles ordered again.

"Yes!"

The two of them hurried down the stairs.

Charles stood at the door as he watched that two men left, and then he looked at the closed door of the study room. He frowned.

Indeed, there were quiet sobs mixed with a nagging voice. Listening to this, his heart skipped a beat.

All these years, he had never understood his father. In the past few years, Maxim hadn't been trying to search for that woman, nor had he ever remarried again.

Charles was taken aback to hear that Maxim was crying.

He didn't understand why.

Also, what was he nagging about?

Charles couldn't hear clearly, so he leaned against the door and listened carefully to what was happening inside.

Maxim wiped his tears and reached out his trembling hand once again to hold the urn in his arms.

"Marilyn, why didn't you come back to find me? If you came back, I would have definitely apologized to you, but why didn't you come back?”

Leaning on the door, Charles was stunned to hear this. He stood there in a daze and didn't react for a long time.

There was no movement in the room anymore.

After a long while, a weeping sound came out from the room again. It was full of forbearance and helplessness as if Maxim had cried out his biggest regret in the world.

"Don't think that I don't know what you are thinking." As soon as Maxim saw Charles, he lost patience and said coldly, "You just want Zachary to invest in your business. Our industry is in jeopardy and it will go bankrupt soon. You can't do anything about it, so you want Zachary to help you."

"Dad..." Charles squeezed out an awkward smile and explained, "I do need Zachary's investment, but I'm doing it for the sake of our family."

Maxim stared at him, emotionless. He was now an old man in his 70s and had no future.

He had given Charles a large sum of assets, but the latter had failed to keep them.

Over the years, whenever Maxim recalled Marilyn's education plan for the children, he would feel very annoyed.

At that time, Marilyn had wanted the children to learn to take responsibility. Hence, she had arranged a lot of classes and household chores for each child. Back then, the resources were insufficient and it was a struggle.

Hence, he had misunderstood Marilyn and thought that she was abusing her stepchildren.

After that, he had had a very serious conflict with Marilyn. Finally, Marilyn couldn't bear it anymore and had run away from home.

She had been away for more than 50 years.

Looking at the spoiled eldest son standing in front of him, who couldn't even keep his own family business, Maxim felt extremely regretful.

As for Marilyn's youngest son, he was very excellent. These years, the youngest son had led the Lowe family to flourish but had unfortunately died at a young age because of Maxim's three useless sons and daughters.

It had only been five years and Charles had already destroyed the entire Lowe family.

Now, that brat even wanted to take advantage of Zachary.

"Don't tell me that you're doing this for the Lowe family." Maxim bellowed in fury, "With you in the Lowe family, no matter how great the family business is, you'll lose it all."

"Dad!" Charles' brows furrowed and he refuted, "I really don't like what you just said."

"If you don't like to hear it, get lost!" Maxim uttered angrily, "I don't want to see you either."

"You're telling me to get lost just because you want to hold Aunt Marilyn's ashes and cry, am I right?" Charles couldn't control himself and blurted out Maxim's thoughts directly.
