How could Jensen stand this kind of torment?

Although he roughly knew what had happened, he still wanted Aunt Jovane to tell him the whole story.

He wanted to know what kind of insult and humiliation Alice had suffered that made her want to escape so much.

"If I don't go, will you break up with me?" Jensen looked at Alice and said with a burning gaze. "If I don't ask, will you continue to be with me?"

Alice turned her face away and whispered, "Jensen, why don't you understand? I am a coward."

"Can't you be brave for me?" He asked.

Alice understood clearly that that person was Jensen's mother. It was impossible to change their blood relation and this might become an obstacle to their relationship.

After a while, Alice replied, "Jensen, how long do you think we can stay together without interference? Your mother doesn't like me. She said that she wouldn't agree to me being with you."

"Her words don't count," Jensen stated. "I only ask you, can you be with me?"

Alice pursed her lips, unable to answer.

"Can you be with me?" Jensen repeated. "Just the two of us, it has nothing to do with anyone else. I thought that as long as we are together, we would be able to overcome any difficulties and obstacles."

"She's your mother!" Alice emphasized. "Your mother can't accept me."

"Alice!" Jensen looked at her. "In my opinion, those reasons you said are not true. It only makes me feel that you don't love me enough."

Alice paused. Then, she smiled bitterly and said, "Jensen, you don't know me very well. What I've done is precisely because I like you and I don't want to put you in a difficult position. That's why I chose to leave you."

"In my opinion, if you like me, then you should stay with me and face it with me."

Alice fell silent.

She was very tired.

After a while, she finally said, "Jensen, let me ask you. Your mother is very angry that you have a girlfriend like me. What will you do if she wants you to break up with me?"

"I won't break up with you," Jensen replied.

"But what if she still humiliates me?" Alice pressed on.

"She won't. I won't allow it!"

"Jensen." Alice looked at him and smiled wryly. "She is your mother. If she wants to humiliate me, you won't be able to hit her."

Jensen froze, his brows knitting together.

In Alice's eyes, this reaction was a form of impatience.

She whispered, "You don't have to frown. I won't hit your mom either, but if it was somebody else who had humiliated me with those words, I would have already hit them. However, she is your mother so I did not dare to. Even if I dared to, I still couldn't do so."

Jensen's eyes narrowed as he gazed at Alice with his deep eyes. He sighed.

He felt dejected.

"Jensen," Alice spoke again, "If I was insulted by someone who doesn't like me and was scolded by her constantly, I think I may not have such a good temper to be patient all the time. I may hit her and knock her down onto the ground. I don't want such a scene to happen, so please don't push me, okay?"

"You didn't try hard enough. How could you give me up so easily?" Jensen asked. "I have been with you for six years. We couldn't clearly see who it was that night in the tent, but we still found each other. Don't you think that this is the best fate in the world?"

Shouldn't one cherish fate like this?

"Jensen, I admit that it's fate," Alice responded. "But I'm even more afraid that our fate is over!"

"Even if the result doesn't work out after trying hard, at least we won't regret it!" Jensen still insisted.

Alice fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "If you really think that trying hard can change your mother, then go and try hard. But if your hard work is still not enough, I don't think I can cater to an elder who would insult me. By then, I hope that you will let go of me."

The two fell asleep together. Alice fell asleep quickly but Jensen couldn't sleep at all.

He kept his eyes open until dawn.

As soon as dawn came, he got up. He didn't wake Alice up and he drove away quickly, heading straight for Jovane's house.

When he knocked on the door and entered the house, Jovane was surprised to see him at first. Then, she understood something and smiled meaningfully.

"Jensen, I knew that you would come to me soon."

Jensen was stunned. He looked at Jovane and said, "Aunt Jovane, I did come for something."

"Come, sit down!" Jovane invited him in.

"Where's Uncle?" Jensen asked.

"Your uncle went out for a run!" Jovane answered. "Have you eaten yet? You should have breakfast here later."

"I won't," Jensen responded. "I have something to do. After that, I will leave."

"I know what you want to talk to me about." Jovane also sat down and looked at Jensen. "Jensen, did your little girlfriend tell you about it in the end?"

Jensen looked at Jovane in surprise.

Jovane smiled and said, "Jensen, your mother really shouldn't have said that to her, but now, I also think that your girlfriend is not suitable for you."

"Aunt Jovane, aren't you too subjective?" Jensen didn't like to hear such words.

"Jensen, it's not that I'm saying bad things about her. Initially, I thought that she wouldn't tell you," Jovane explained. "If she didn't tell you, it means that she is shrewd and steady, and she could take a loss of the situation and keep her calm.
