Although it was known that Lowell was very soft-spoken, one could also tell that he was sensible too.

He was so self-disciplined that one would feel sorry for him once they were to learn his age in comparison to the personality he carried.

Grace did not speak any further, knowing that he must have felt unaccustomed to a certain extent since he had just got here not long ago.

After all, everyone needed some time to adapt to a new environment.

She reached out to his head and lightly caressed his hair as she said, "Well, you are a caring child. Have your breakfast first, then I'll take you to the hospital to see her later."

Lowell was taken aback. He pursed his lips and asked hesitantly, "Are we going to see Mom?"

She nodded and said, "You're an intelligent boy and I don't want to hide it from you. There may not be much time left for her and she is currently in the hospital. I am afraid that if I don't tell you now, you may blame me when this comes up in the future!"

"Grace, is she going to die soon?" He asked, clearly in denial.

She couldn't bear to think of it, but still mustered up the courage to say, "Yes, there is not much time left. The cancer cells have been spreading and her whole abdomen is full of tumors."

"Is there nothing the doctors can do about it?" He asked.

Grace still told him the truth, "It's spread to the whole body. The medical knowledge I have tells me she is in the last stage of her cancer. Even if she was to go under the knife, I am afraid that it would not work."

Lowell fell silent hearing this.

His expression went somber right away as his clear eyes slowly turned red.

She saw him pursing his lips and he said, "I don't want her to die."

Grace's nose twitched as she said, "Though I don't like her, in fact, I hate her, I don't want her to die. It's just that we may have no choice."

He didn't speak any further. He understood very well what his sister meant.

He lowered his head dejectedly, and the corner of his eyes gradually became wet.

She put her arms around his shoulder and said, "Come on, let's get some breakfast."

A few minutes later, everyone arrived at the dining room and sat around the table to have breakfast.

Lowell hardly ate anything.

Grace was so worried about him as he didn't eat much.

She gave him a bowl of rice pudding and said, "Finish it."

He was stunned for a moment. He then looked at her and nodded obediently, "Okay."

Seeing that he had finished eating, everyone felt slightly relaxed considering he started off not wanting to eat anything.

Heinz and Jensen exchanged looks in silence.

Suddenly, Heinz's phone rang.

He glanced at his phone and his expression sharpened in an instant as he laid down the spoon in his hands and stood up to answer a phone call, "Hello, Dad!"

Everyone was dumbstruck.

No one saw that Lowell's face turned pale as he took a careful look at Heinz with envy in his eyes.

He quickly lowered his head again and continued to eat his food.

Gary complained, "Uncle, you're a very cunning policeman. You clearly know everything, but you pretend you don't know and you're lying. You'll turn into Pinnochio for deceiving children."

Jensen didn't know whether to laugh or cry and said, "Gary, you really have a sharp tongue, but I really can't say anything more. It's rude to talk about other people's affairs behind their backs."

"He's not one of the 'other people'!" Gary exclaimed.

Jensen reminded, "You didn't admit that he is your grandfather, did you? And you have never acknowledged Heinz as your father. In this family, excluding the outsiders, it seems that you are the only one who has an issue. The rest of us regard each other as our own people. You are the only one who always takes the initiative to remove yourself from the family conversations and talk like a bystander."

Gary was dumbfounded by his words in an instant. He looked at Jensen pitifully.

"I have already called you 'uncle', thus I'm more or less related to you. Why would you reprimand me this way? I know that your relationship with Heinz is closer than ours. Well, if you quarrel with my aunt in the future, don't expect me to stand on your side."

Alice, who was eating, couldn't help but to laugh. She knew that this nephew was very smart, and ordinary people couldn't win an argument with him.

Alice reached out to rub Gary's hair, "What if you acknowledge your father? He and your Mommy have already registered their marriage. Why can't you just call him 'dad'?"

Gary still said, "No, don't even think about it. Why do I have to call him 'dad'? He's unqualified in everything. It will be too easy for him if I was to call him 'dad' just like that."

Alice looked at Grace speechlessly.

She furrowed her brow and she was very helpless with her son's behavior.

"Gary, are you planning not to call him 'dad' for the rest of your life?" She asked in a low voice.

He pursed his lips and said, "Mommy, don't force me. As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. It's useless to force me."

She did not press on with the matter. Instead, she said casually, "Okay, it's up to you. However, you don't have to express your opinion in the future. We will be discussing things on our own. Just listen to us. You don't have to participate in the conversation."
