Chapter 127 novel Twisted Ties of Love (Izabella Salotti and Brett)
Brett's way of coaxing people was like him comforting a little kitten or puppy. To him, Izabella's furious rage was as insignificant as a puff of air.
"Do you think I'm playing with you?"
"Alright, alright, you're not playing, let's eat. If you don't like donuts, it's noted. I won't buy it for you anymore." He only bought it because he thought Izabella would love it.
Brett didn't insist on taking Izabella to watch the movie. She didn't feel well and wanted to nap after the meal, so he took her home.
As soon as she got in the car, she leaned against the seat and closed her eyes. Her excessive sleepiness was due to the medication prescribed by the psychiatrist. The medicine was not good for her body if taken too much, but she couldn't control her condition without it, so she had to gradually reduce her dosage.
When they got home, she didn't wake up. Brett wanted to carry her inside, but as soon as his fingers touched her waist, she woke up.
It was like a conditioned reflex. She stared at him with a pair of wary eyes. In Izabella's eyes, Brett saw various expressions, such as fear, terror, indifference, vigilance, and confusion, but he couldn't find the joy that used to be the most abundant. Brett was dumbfounded when she glared at him, and a feeling of emptiness overwhelmed him, like he was punched in the face.
"I saw you sleeping soundly, so I thought I would carry you up."
Izabella didn't appreciate his gesture. She got off the car, wobbling to open the back door to get her stuff.
Having slept in the same position all the way, her body ached, especially her neck. When she tilted her head back, she could hear a clicking sound.
By the time Brett parked the car in the garage, Izabella had already taken out the key, opened the door, and went straight to the bedroom on the second floor. She took out the gifts one by one.
None of them were expensive, but the effort put into them by the kids was heartfelt. What's more, it was her first time receiving so many gifts.
The more complex handicrafts were made by a group of kids working together. Izabella took out a clear bottle filled with colorful stars made of folded plastic tubes. She shook the bottle and saw a row of names at the bottom of it.
Each gift had the names of the kids, meaning that they made them with their own hands.
Izabella felt a warmth in her heart. She put the gifts one by one in the drawer below the cabinet. At the bottom of the bag, she found a pair of exquisitely designed "donut" earrings.
Izabella took them out and saw the name "Ryker" written on the bottom of the box.
It was supposed to be an ordinary name that left her at a total loss, as if a big hand was gripping her heart and tightening it slowly.
If it were a month ago, Izabella would never believe that she could be so attached to a big, retarded guy she had only met once.
Her voice was very light, almost emotionless, with her eyes half-closed, conveying an eerily peaceful expression.
Jennifer hesitated and then nodded, "Isn't it?"
Izabella snorted coldly, her voice full of disdain and mockery. "Do you know why he hired you?"
"Because you're sick, President Windham hired me to take care of you, keep you company, and encourage you to eat and take your meds."
Izabella asked again, "Do you know how I got sick?"
Jennifer didn't answer, she didn't know about the incident. She had only read about Izabella's illness online but didn't ask for more details, as mental illness wasn't a good topic.
Izabella continued, "I was seven weeks pregnant when Brett pushed me down a flight of stairs, causing me to miscarry. He then shamelessly discussed with another woman in front of me at the hospital how many kids I should have for adoption, making me feel worse than a dog!"
"So that's how it happened," Jennifer said in disbelief, her ears ringing.
Izabella put down her book, "So don't you dare say anything nice about him to me. It will only make me feel more sick of him!"
