Brett poured a glass of water, and Izabella took it, giggling again after taking a sip.
"Was what I said that funny?" he didn't understand why Izabella had been laughing for so long, even to the point of tears.
Izabella put down her glass, "It's not that what you said is funny, I find myself ridiculous, laughing at myself as a joke."
She had always loved Brett carefully, she donated her blood to save Kaley's life, only to realize today that she wasn't the only one who couldn't see the true faces of others, Brett was the same.
"I'd like to be alone tonight." Izabella's red, swollen eyes startled Brett, but he didn't think too much about it, just assuming Izabella felt wronged that he was using her in exchange for Kaley.
He wanted to hold Izabella like usual, to comfort her, but looking at Izabella's cold expression, he began to feel fear deep in his heart.
"Izabella, I know you're scared, but I have to save Kaley. Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you..."
Izabella quietly said, "I'm not scared, I'm particularly satisfied with the eight hundred million alimony I'll receive from divorcing you. I just want to be quiet tonight. Don't worry, I won't back out, I will get Kaley back for you tomorrow." The last sentence was particularly emphasized by her.
Izabella's eyes were as cold as ever, but he could clearly feel something had disappeared from them.
Brett could distinctly feel that he had lost something very important, and by the time he wanted to desperately salvage it, he was powerless.
Brett left the bedroom, leaving the space to Izabella.
After he left, Izabella pulled the covers over her head and curled up quietly inside.
Brett turned on his computer to watch the surveillance video, he was just too worried about Izabella.
He thought Izabella would go straight to sleep after he left, but instead she pulled up the covers, her body trembling.
Was she crying?
Watching the surveillance video, Brett felt his heart ache more and more.
He shifted his gaze, took a few deep breaths to suppress the strange pain. Why would Izabella cry after hearing about his near-drowning incident six years ago? It wasn't fear, could it be because she still cared about him?
The rain outside kept pouring down, and with this weather, it probably wouldn't stop by tomorrow.
He called the kidnappers, but they didn't answer. After a while, a call from an unknown number came in.
A wave of indescribable fatigue washed over him, and Brett stood by the window, gripping his phone tightly.
Brett didn't sleep all night, and neither did Izabella. As soon as the sky lightened, the two of them ate breakfast and went to apply for a divorce.
Nowadays, there were more people getting divorced than getting married, and they had to wait in line for a while before it was their turn.
Both of their faces were unusually calm, neither quarreling nor causing a scene.
Divorce procedures weren't simpler than marriage ones, but both of them had already signed the paperwork last night, and after they signed again this morning, it marked the end of their relationship as husband and wife.
Their wedding had been simple, and their divorce was the same. Apart from the process being troublesome, the beginning and the end were both quite plain.
When they got married, Izabella didn't feel like it, and now that she was divorced from Brett, it still felt like a dream. She stood in a daze for a good twenty seconds before she came back to her senses.
She said lightly, "Brett, I am finally free."
As Izabella finished speaking, Brett felt as if a part of his heart was missing, a pain so intense that he couldn't breathe.
