Izabella's collarbones were pretty nice, but he seemed to like wrecking anything that's nice. The man pierced through her collarbone with a sharp tool, leaving Izabella writhing in pain on the wooden board.

She'd been begging for him to kill her already, but the more she pleaded, the more ruthless he became.

Her mouth was numbed by the injection, so she could hardly talk or bite her tongue.

The guy seemed to be quite absorbed in his cruel game until someone behind him reminded him.

In a low voice, he asked Izabella, "Answer my question and if I'm satisfied, I'll let you off the hook."

Izabella's eyes were half-closed, with tears on her eyelashes.

The man took a map handed over by his assistant. "Which direction did Brett transfer the mine underneath Starry Brilliance Island?"

Izabella's body was totally worn out. She wanted to close her eyes and sleep, but the pain worsened whenever she tried. She knew it was because of whatever he injected into her just now.

Hearing about "Starry Brilliance Island," she finally showed a tiny reaction.

A mine on Starry Brilliance Island? How did she miss that? Turned out Brett bought the island for its valuable minerals instead of turning it into an amusement park in her name like he first said.

Izabella looked at the map with a few marked spots, and shook her head. Before she could speak, the lie detector above her head made a sound.

The man stared at her sinisterly, "After all I've done to you, you're still lying to me?"

She wanted to say she wasn't lying, but her tongue was still numb. She could hardly make a sound.

All she could do was shake her head over and over again, trying to tell the man wearing the ghost king mask that she wasn't lying. She really didn't know.

But the more she reacted, the louder the lie detector sounded. He simply didn't believe her.

"I've heard you're deeply in love with Brett, and now I can see it's true. You'd still keep his secrets even after I've turned you into this mess."

The man leisurely picked up another syringe from the surgery table. The eerie red liquid inside made one shudder.

"I have two goals for kidnapping you – one is for Starry Brilliance Island, the other is for you."

"You said Brett cares more about Kaley, but I don't think that's the case. Honestly, I've known him for a long time and never seen him so obsessed with someone. But of course, anyone close to him doesn't end well."

Brett always did things his way and never considered others' feelings. He was selfish, but in a way, it also showed he was afraid of losing control over things.

Brett's parents died during the chaos fifteen years ago, leaving only him and his grandfather in the Windham family.

Brett didn't dare get close to anyone. Any additional feelings would become attachments that people could use against him.

Izabella thought Brett loved Kaley, but he didn't really. His heart had been lost since that tragic event fifteen years ago.

Although Brett was repeatedly haunted by being saved by Kaley six years ago, deep inside, he didn't love her.

But Izabella was an exception, maybe even he didn't know why.

The man took a beat and continued, "Izabella, have you ever thought that Brett trading you for Kaley is his way of protecting you?" He pretended that he only cared for Kaley, so he could draw people's attention elsewhere.

Of course, this is just a guess. Nobody could really understand Brett's true intentions. A man like him, who had severed all emotional connections, was a terrifying opponent.

Izabella was delirious and couldn't hear anything. But she could sense the man touching her neck, followed by the pain of a needle piercing her skin.

Compared to the previous pain, this was bearable.

Izabella's body convulsed in pain, as if something was clenching her brain.

She felt so cold and in so much pain. "Brett, I hate you. I hate you... Why did you use me?"

If Brett hadn't put Starry Brilliance Island in her name, maybe things wouldn't have ended up like this.

Izabella's voice was too soft for anyone to hear. Thankfully, the man knew how to read lips and saw the words "J City" quietly leaving her lips. Yet, he couldn't fully trust the delirious Izabella.

Time was running out for him. Brett would likely find Kaley soon, and it wouldn't be long until they traced everything back to him.

He thought he could scare the girl a bit and she'd spill the beans, but her lips were sealed tight.

He originally planned to kill her, but now he found it hard to let go, after all, this was the first time someone had lasted so long under his torture!

Too bad being strong-willed doesn't help much.

The man patted the lie detector on Izabella's head, "Does this thing even work? Could it be broken? No, it shouldn't be." It worked just fine when he was torturing Kaley, so it must be Izabella who isn't telling the truth.

After ten minutes passed, the man woke up the just fainted Izabella once again. She had never felt time pass so slowly as if she was trapped in a never-ending nightmare.

Izabella's throat was torn from the inside, burning with pain.

"You just said it was in J City."

Izabella croaked silently, "If you insist on J City, then it's J City."

This time, the lie detector's reaction wasn't as strong. The man squinted a bit, this girl still wasn't being honest. If she wouldn't talk, he would just play with her while he deal with the dummy he captured a couple of days ago.
